Comb3534/6

Comb consisting of two horizontal bars and grass(?) fibre teeth. The fibres are inserted into the top bar, made of bone, and separated from one another with cream-coloured cotton strands; strands are woven into a repeating concentric diamond pattern. Bottom of the weaving is anchored to the second bar, made of wood, which is wrapped in cotton. Teeth extend past the lower bar and are undecorated. Stiff braided ties secure bars together, on either end of weaving; ties wrapped in cotton. Red and yellow feathers inserted into either end of bone bar.

Mask3522/39 a-p

Wooden humanoid mask (part a) with detachable canine style teeth (parts b-p). Face has a semi-circular brow overtop protruding circular eyes and a large nose. The eye rims are covered in white pigment; red pigment across interior of mouth. Teeth extending from upper lip (parts b-i) are mostly covered in red pigment; teeth extending from lower lip (parts j-p) are mostly undecorated. Several teeth are actual animal teeth, rest are wood. Grey-brown and black fur line all edges of mouth, imitating a moustache and beard. Braided cords nailed around the chin, imitating a beard. Bristles of plant fibre, fur and feathers are attached to the forehead ridge, imitating hair. There is an oval-shaped opening above the nose bridge; mask has holes for eyes and mouth. All sides are rounded; interior is hollow. Holes are drilled along all edges, for attachments. Looped cords on either side of mask.

Hat3509/1

Wide brimmed, dome-shaped hat woven from palm leaves. Hat frame formed with an inner rod. Four groupings of red and blue tassels, tied together with braided cords, secured at intervals along the bottom edge. Star-shaped medallion with fringe on top centre of hat. Design consists of concentric circles and stars; done in red, yellow, dark blue, white and light green beads. Long feather attached to middle of medallion with red cord. Extending outward from the star, to the edges, are black, dark yellow and red beaded lines; dividing the hat into triangle-shaped sections. Matching line borders upper section of hat, before it slopes towards the brim. Band of red and dark yellow diamonds above border, connected to one another with black dots. Green painted decorations across interior of hat, matching beaded line pattern on surface. Hat band attached to interior, woven from rattan(?) strips and lined with patterned cloth. Red tassels on either side of band.

Doll3502/4

Female doll, in standing position on wooden base, made of corn husks. Face is featureless. She has long, braided black hair secured with red ties. Braided leather band knotted around head, with a feather tucked in the back. She is wearing a layered floral dress with black pants underneath. Edges of layers and bottoms of pants are decorated with multi-coloured beads. Beads stitched on in a zigzag pattern. Dress is belted at waist with a long leather tie. She is holding a large pestle in both hands, inserted into a cylindrical, bark covered mortar. Artist name written on base.

String Puppet3480/1

String puppet mounted on a hooked metal rod. Male character has wooden face, hands and legs. Hands and face are painted beige. Top of head painted black, imitating hair. He has a long nose, rounded cheeks and wide eyes. Eyes are white, with black pupils and outlines, and have rounded eyebrows overtop, also done in black. Tip of nose and mouth are painted red. Calves are painted grey, to imitate boots, and thighs are covered in black fabric. He wears full, dark gold-coloured body armour, with raised curvilinear and geometric motifs throughout. There is a central design of a bronze-coloured eagle on his chest plate, with bronze highlights along his knee and shin guards. A sword sheath, with a decorated bottom, is attached to the waist, on his left side. Beneath his armour, he wears an orange-red skirt, with sparkly dark brown bands along the bottom edge. His helmet, adorned with an eagle, has a plume of white, black and sparkly green feathers. Dark gold-coloured shield tied to left forearm. Shield has same raised motifs and central eagle design as armour. The right hand has a hooked metal rod attached to the wrist, and is clenched in a fist with a circle through it. A small silver-coloured sword fits through the hole. The body is jointed at the elbows, shoulders, hips and knees, with the limbs held together by fabric underneath the armour. Strings are attached to the visor, left hand, shield, left leg, and sword.

Fragment: Headdress3263/83 a-e

Fragments from a headdress. Consists of feather plume (part a) and reed shards (parts b-e). Shards are likely from the headdress structure. All reeds have slightly curved interiors and are brown-orange in colour. Plume made up of long white, purple and green feathers. Majority of feather quills are wrapped in beige thread. Ends of quills twined together.

Fragment: Headdress3263/82

Feather plume from a headdress(?). Individual yellow parrot feathers, streaked with light green and light orange, with braided plant fibre attached to their ends. All braids are bound together, securing the feathers in a bundle. Additional black thread tied around the plume, slightly above the braids.

Headdress3391/1

Headdress made of a brown felt cap with a small leather and beaded band around the forehead. Long white and dark brown feathers attached above the band, all around edges of cap. Six small white feathers sewn directly to top of cap. Long feather shafts wrapped in red fabric and secured to the brown cap by loops of skin. Strands of animal hair adhered to white, circular pieces of fabric that are attached to tips of all of the long feathers. Beaded forehead band has designs of crosses and pyramids done in white, dark blue, orange, black and red. Band has two beaded circles attached to ends with crosses and triangles done in light blue, red and black. Strands of silk-like fabric drape down from centre of beaded circles. Strands are white, lavender, dark blue and dark yellow.
