Dance Shirt3558/3

Short-sleeved black shirt with fringe extending from the sleeves and bottom edge. Shirt has a V-neck and the collar is bordered with additional fabric; gold sequins trim neck opening and collar. Copper design on front centre of shirt; done in red felt. Copper has a bear design on the top half and "T"-like design on the bottom. Gold sequins are stitched across the red felt. All gold sequins have white beads on top of them. Back of shirt is undecorated.

Wig3566/1 a-g

Short wig made up of brown curly human hair (part a); an interior net of red yarn and plain cord holds the shape of the wig. Back edge of wig is decorated with a band of white feathers; front left and right corners of wig are decorated with small yellow flowers. Wig has six attachments, consisting of: a red parrot on a stick, that attaches to the top (part b); brown-black and white feathered wings, that attach at the front (part c); a spray of multi-coloured parrot feathers, that attach to the front of the wings (part d); two small white and yellow feathers, that stick out on either side of the wig (parts e-f); and a snake skin headband (part g). Large feather decorations (parts c-d) are missing attachments; small feathers are inserted into wig and held in place with their shafts. Headband has two ties on either side.

Handmade Book3565/1

Handmade 28 page book of off-white amate (amatl) paper, illustrating different types of nzahki cut-out figures. Accordian style pages. The front and back covers have green ribbons running horizontally across the top and bottom, extending 4.5 - 5 cm past the edges. The front cover has 2 brown paper cut-out figures adhered to it, with handwritten title(?) in faded red ink (note: ink is mostly too faint to read, but ends with 1975?). Pages 1-7 have handwritten entries in blue ink (in Spanish); pages 8-28 each have a brown paper cut-out figure attached, with handwriting above and captions (name of figure?) below each one.

Knife3589/1 a-b

Ceremonial parang (part a) with scabbard (part b). Long knife has a cylindrical horn hilt that tapers towards top; rectangular protrusion extends from left side. Both top half of hilt and protrusion are hollowed out. Circular, curvilinear, linear, and fang-like motifs carved in relief along upper half of hilt; hilt grip covered with woven band of rattan. Holes are drilled into the tapered section of the hilt, for hanging purposes; hilt attached to blade with resin. Knife blade is convex on one side, slightly concave on the other, and widens from the hilt; back edge of point is tiered. Linear, "X" designs, geometric, and curvilinear motifs incised along front of blade. Scabbard is composed of wood sheath for the long knife, and has a smaller plant fibre and fabric sheath tied to back with rattan. Wood sheath is made of two pieces of wood bound together with rattan; upper two bands of rattan are plain, bottom four are tied decoratively. Panels decorated with floral and curvilinear motifs carved along front of wood sheath. Smaller sheath is undecorated and has two pieces of bamboo along the interior edges, providing shape. Long braided rattan cord, with looped ends, threaded through small sheath, for carrying purposes.

Band3559/73

Long rectangular band with bright pink and grey patterned bands; seam at centre in a dark blue band with red on either side. Pink bands have connected swirl motifs, grey bands have stepped lines forming geometric patterns throughout; designs done in indigo, silver, white and dark pink. Blue band is undecorated, red band has white flowers and four-leaf clovers throughout. Back of rectangular band is plain black.

River Blanket3590/4

White wool weaving with long fringe attached to sides and bottom edge. The fringe is predominantly white, with pairs of long dark brown fringe spaced evenly throughout. Six rows of designs across entire surface; done in dark brown. From top to bottom, the designs are: plain thin line, wide line trimmed with thin ones on either side, wide vertical zigzags, checkered pattern with rectangles throughout, wide vertical zigzags, and wide vertical zigzags. Bottom edge bordered with band filled with chevrons.

Dark blue shoulder bag with multicoloured embroidered panel on front. Panel has a central flower-like design, made up of eight diamonds, on a grid of patterned squares. Patterns consist of Greek key motifs, concentric triangles and cross-hatching. Band of zigzags across top of panel and bands of squares, with grille-like pattern, across bottom edge. Panel trimmed with white, blue, red and yellow bands; bag opening trimmed with red and blue. Coloured pompoms and white seed bead decoration in bottom corners; additional pompom along top centre. Interior of bag lined with white cotton.

Dark red rectangular apron with an elongated hexagon-shaped waistband and long pink fringe along bottom edge; back is plain black. Beige decorative panels are attached to waistband and form four columns down middle of main body of apron. Panels all have black curvilinear and linear designs; multicoloured triangles and diamonds throughout. Patterned beige, triangular patches extend from bottom edge of waistband, over top upper section of apron. Upper half of apron has green, yellow and purple stripes; remains of yellow, green and blue stripes below beige columns. Wide blue band borders bottom edge of apron, above pink fringe.

Central design of a helical-like shape, made up of diamonds; diamonds alternate between white with pink and green triangles, and white with pink and orange triangles; negative space and edges of shape are bordered by pink diamonds with multicoloured flowers in their centres. Sides and bottom edge of panel are bordered with floral motifs, a pink band and white triangles; floral motifs are made up of multicoloured diamonds and triangles. Top edge of panel is undecorated.

Skirt3559/57

Pleated indigo-dyed skirt with high waist and unfinished upper edge. Two pink woven panels decorate centre and bottom edge of skirt; painted decorations and applique throughout indigo sections. Painted decorations consist of white lines, "X"'s, concentric diamonds, and inverted triangles. Applique designs consist of pink "X"'s, "V"'s, and plain lines, multicoloured triangles, as well as white rectangles with multicoloured diamonds. Panels have white zigzags and lizard-like designs woven throughout them. White applique bands with triangles throughout woven panel designs; edges of panel are trimmed with diamond filled applique bands. Bottom edge of skirt is trimmed with white and pink stripes.
