Calungo hand puppet of a 'Maria Lapisaia' character. Head, hands and feet are carved from wood and painted. She has pink skin, oval eyes with black pupils, and greying black hair covered by an off-white with floral scarf. She has red lips and a rectangle-shaped moveable lower jaw that is operated by a long thin cord that extends out of the back of her head. She is wearing a long blue and white tie-dyed dress overtop of dark blue with yellow floral leggings.
Mamulengo rod (stick) puppet of a male character. Head, hands and feet are carved from wood. The man has black skin, large black almond-shaped eyes, and red glossy lips. He wears a round woven hat, long-sleeved dark blue with red floral shirt, and yellow with heart-pattern pants. He is barefoot. The fabric is adhered(?) to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny neon green ribbon at the wrists and neck. Operated by three rods - one large rod is attached to the lower back, and two more rods are attached to each foot.
Mamulengo string puppet (marionette) of a 'Mulher' character. Head, hands and feet carved from wood and painted. She has brown skin, an open mouth with red lips, and wide green eyes with eyelashes. She has long, curly white hair. She wears dark green floral pants and a long-sleeved yellow floral top. The fabric is adhered to the hands and head, and wrapped with shiny red ribbon at the wrists, and green around the waist and ankles. Attached by several black strings to a wooden T-shaped control bar.
Large antelope puppet head (part a) with detached horn (part b), and a separate manipulation stick (part c). The face of the animal is painted in a plaid pattern of red, white, green and yellow squares with concentric V's on the forehead - red, black, white, green and yellow, and a white heart-shaped nose. The horns are both broken, with one detached. In between the horns is a small human figure with bright pink skin, wearing a beige tunic. The figure's arms are jointed at the shoulders, and are controlled by blue string. The manipulation stick is inserted into a rectangular hole at the back of the head.
Mask with trunk-like projection extending forwards from top of the head. Mask built on a wood frame, lined with woven plant fibre. Heavily decorated with cowries and areas of beadwork on forehead and around side. Face has cowrie shell eyes outlined with beads, and a wooden nose and mouth. Bottom edged with plant fibre, which has been split into finer pieces below the face.
Wand with heavily beaded handle. Three sections of bands of colours - dark brown, yellow, orange and light blue, with three sections of triangles in white, dark green, yellow and orange. There is a section where the shaft splits into four smaller pieces that are wrapped in light blue and black beads. Above the beading, the handle is wrapped in red fabric with two small loops of plant fibre cord attached. Extending from the other end is long, straight dark red-brown horse(?) hair over wood, that folds over on itself where the wood ends.
Mask with a bird head and vertical rectangular superstructure. The bird has two large concentric circle eyes, a raised red ridge, and a long curved beak. Both the head and the beak are painted with black and white repeating triangle designs in various sizes. Long brown plant fibre hair is attached across the back of the face mask, and hangs down. The superstructure consists of two rectangular panels, attached with some openwork. The panels are surmounted by a large crescent with smaller diamond.
Plank mask with circular face and tall, vertical superstructure. The face has two large concentric circle eyes, concentric diamond nose, and a small tubular mouth. Long plant fibre hair is attached across the back of the face mask, and hangs down. There is a black downward-curving projection attached at the centre of the forehead. Diamond-shaped panels connect both ends of the long rectangular board. The board is painted with geometric and zoomorphic shapes in black or dark red on a white background. Surmounted by a crescent-shape.
The mask has a two sunken rectangular spaces within a raised rectangular border, raised jagged-edged nose, rectangular cutout eyes, and pointed ears. The mask is painted with orange-brown and red-brown. Extending up from the head between the ears are two long, slightly curved and spiraled ears or horns. A loosely woven plant fibre net is attached to the back.
Large painted wooden boat puppet (part a) with ten painted figures (parts b-k). The boat is painted black with white, red, yellow and dark green vertical bands on either end, as well as two yellow semicircles, and many white zigzag designs. There are five benches within the boat. The bow has a shorter white painted side section than the stern. The figures have different colours of painted skin (red, orange, yellow, dark brown) and each wears a fabric dress or tunic. There are 11 holes drilled down on the top of the boat for the puppets to be inserted into. Four of the puppets (parts b-c, j-k) hold either a paddle or stick, which is controlled by a green cord.
