MaskA3550

Wooden, bear mask, carved and painted. The muzzle is hinged – with a piece of string on one side and skin on the other – to a lower jaw. The ties allow the jaw to open and close. Wooden ears are attached to the top, one is painted black, the other is unpainted and is a later addition. The mask is painted black, red, green and white with Northwest coast designs. The black paint covers an older red.

A hollow, bottle-shaped, brown wood horn that is circular in cross section with a neck tapering to a flat, beak-like mouthpiece. Bound with green string and brown twine around near the wider end. Has a raven design on the shellacked surface. Has circle in circle eyes surrounded by a horizontal ovoid with an inverted u form above at either top side. There is a curving double v-shape underneath with the wings that are consisting of a top horizontal ovoid in ovoid and two feathers. Feathers have a u form within a larger one that has a rectangle within. Inner wing is flat at the tip while the outer wing is outward pointed at the tip. Talons have an ovoid from which a downward and inward curving talon is on one side while three more are on the other side. The tail on the opposite side has two u forms that have a rectangle within and an ovoid in ovoid across the top. The name 'JOE SEAWEED' is pencilled around the wide end.

Head band of strips of cedar bark wrapped with string and sewn together in horizontal rows; extra bundles of red-dyed cedar bark bound with string and tied to the main band on three sides. Large rectangular piece of red-dyed cedar bark backed with cloth sewn to one side.

Beaded belt with wide sections of orange, red, blue, and yellow beading separated by numerous colours of beading in zigzag patterns outlined in black. Several long black tassels fringed with blue beads at one end and red beads at the other hang from both ends of the belt.

Belt made of plaited grass strips sewn together, with wide beaded panel sewn on. The panel has several bright colours outlined in black in a interlocking diamond pattern on a white background. Braided black fibre ties and white beaded ties with clusters of white beads hang from the underside.

Pair of beaded anklets. Part a is longer than part b. each have numerous colours outlined in black in interlocking designs of squares and triangles. The centre of both are denoted by a red beaded rectangle that outlines the multicoloured beaded patterns. Each pair of anklets have two beaded loops attached to the corners on one side and two beaded clusters attached to the corners on the other side.
