Burden BasketA9011

Rectangular flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel slat base and wall construction. Upper basket is fully imbricated in grass, with two parallel stepped zig-zag designs in dark cherry bark. Dark cherry bark stitches at intervals around rim. Lower portion of basket has three short bands on all sides except one that has two, in grass and dark cherry bark, in "cluster of flies" checkerboard pattern. Rawhide loops on one side. String handles on other sides.

Cylindrical basket (a) with rounded lid (b); simple interlocking coiled weaving (with bifurcated stitches); parallel slat bottom reinforced by stitches along edges; watch-spring lid construction with small hole in centre; complete beading; flange along basket rim. Basket is completely beaded; sides: has each coil done in triple staggered rows of alternating bulrush, red, and black cherry bark. Lid: has each coil is beaded with alternating strips of white, black, and red, creating concentric circles. String handle attached with rawhide thongs. Colour: natural.

Set of five bracelets or arm ornaments with wrap-around weave and geometric designs on the outside. Part a is orange-yellow with a checkered dark brown diamond motif overall, part b is orange-yellow with a checkered diamond, chevron, triangle and diagonal line motif, part c is off-white with a checkered diamond motif in dark brown, and parts d and e are both dark brown with an orange-yellow checkered diamond motif.

Inner ParkaA2.511

Women’s inner coat, or parka, of caribou skin with the fur on the inside and a large elongated hood. The coat has a thin rectangular front flap and a large rectangular back flap. The coat is waist length and has broad angular shoulders. The back of the coat is slightly enlarged through the insertion of a piece of fur. The hood opening is trimmed with a band of white fur. A tape of dark green cloth is sewn on the skin side along the hem.
