Large, carved bird mask with a long beak, a high bridge and ovoid shaped cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of rubber nailed to either side. The beak is painted black with a red mouth and nose. At the back of the nose is a large red split U-forms. The bridge has six red U-forms on the bottom and eight, white U-forms on top. The eyes are white, outlined in black, on a white, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. Underneath the eye is four white U’s. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of twine used to open and close the beak along with a fibre cloth. The top and side edges of the mask are lined with braided cedar. The top has short pieces of cedar creating a fringe, while the back has longer strips that hang over the wearer. The mask is painted black, red, and white with stylized designs.

Bird MaskA3672

Large, carved, wooden, raven hamatsa mask with a long beak and two sets of s-shaped cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather nailed to either side. The beak is painted black with a red mouth and nose. At the back of the mouth are three red ovoid-like shapes. Surrounding the nose are two s-shapes and three elongated s-shapes. The eyes are white, outlined in black, surrounded by red, on a white, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of twine used to open and close the beak. The top, side and bottom edges of the mask are lined with braided cedar. The top and sides have short bundles of cedar creating a fringe. Intertwined in the cedar are a few feathers. The underside of the mouth is painted black with a small white and red design. The mask is painted black, red, and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.

Belt PurseEdz1620

Triangular shaped purse with rounded corners and a curved indentation in the middle; the top has a flap opening. At the top and the sides are three pieces of green twine that are knotted; the two side pieces have two sets of black threaded tassels. The purse is edge purple and white lozenge pattern followed by a row of gold metallic thread. The central design has a check blue pattern with a ruyi motif on top with purple calligraphy. The reverse side has yellow circular background with a ruyi motif on top with purple and blue calligraphy.

White silk pillowcase with embroidery. In the centre are prunus, leaf, fruit and butterfly motifs arranged in a circular design on white ground. Towards the ends are moth motifs. In the corners are peony and leaf motifs. There are four orange ties attached to the long sides. The back is lined with white cotton.

Small blue silk pants with pink cotton waistband. The pant legs angled sharply towards the waistband and the centre crotch seam is open on one side. The bottom of the pant legs have a black border with bat, peony and endless knot motifs in blue and white, edged with yellow floral trim. The inside is unlined.

Small light brown damask tunic. The tunic has a round neck, wide sleeves and side opening with brass frog closures. Around the neck, side opening and cuffs is a black border with orange floral trim. The damask is woven containing a bat and ji (luck) symbol motif. The inner lining is pink cotton.

Tunic1205/7

Small red tunic with wide sleeves and side opening with a tie. On the front and back are floral sprigs. There is a wide border around the sleeve, neck and partway down the side opening. The border has a floral motif on light green ground, edged with purple trim and twisted ricrac. There is a border along lower sides and bottom hem. The border has a floral motif on cream ground, edged with blue meander trim. The inside lining is pink cotton.

Case706/8

Case or holder with an elongated shaft that is cylindrical at the base and flat at the mouth with a slight outward bulge on either side and a rounded top. The case is composed of dark blue woven fabric with a curvilinear light blue line design and a repeated light blue, yellow and white flower and dot motif. A ceramic bead with a flower design is threaded on each side of the blue cord strap, which is wrapped with blue, off-white and brown thread at the base. Lined with brown paper.
