Tassel1017/3 a-b

Pair of tassels, each composed of a piece of blue fabric that has two peaks at the top centre and two wing-like arms as well as lobed sides that come to a point at the bottom centre. The fabric is embroidered with gold thread in a cloud-like motif, and has a black border. Five long tassels hang from the bottom of each. Part a has (from left to right) a greyish-pink tassel, a light green tassel a dark pink tassel, an off-white tassel, and a mauve tassel. Part b is the mirror image of part a.

Oval cedar bark basket with a square bottom and dark brown diagonal overlay decoration. Decoration consists of four pair of two parallel lines each of dyed cedar bark. Decoration starts near the rim and turns at the corner of base and proceeds up towards the opposite rim, resulting in the decoration covering all sides of basket. Dyed bark is seen every other stitch. String handles consist of two bundles of three pieces of string. The two bundles run parallel to each other, joined together at their top edges by another bundle of two or three pieces of string 6 cm. long. String runs inside the basket for 2.7 cm. on one side, and 4 cm. on the other. String does not run on the underside of the basket.

Large, carved, wooden, raven hamatsa mask with a long, tall, beak and cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of rubber nailed to either side. The beak is painted black with a red mouth and noses. Along the back of the nose to the back of the mouth are red U-forms and other shapes outlined in white. The eyes are white, outlined in black, surrounded by red on a white, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of twine used to open and close the beak. The top has short pieces of cedar creating a fringe, while the back has longer strips that hang over the wearer. Intertwined in the cedar are many feathers. There is a piece of cloth that hangs down over the front of the wearer. The mask is painted black, red, and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.
