Shirt3161/2

Child's shirt or tunic. Shirt is long, flaring at bottom, wide at the underarm, then narrowing toward the cuffs. It is carefully shaped by the use of several pieces of fabric that are sewn together in small, tight seams. Neck opening is small and round, edged in embroidered lines of dark pink. Front is open to chest, fastened at top with a small shell button, and lined with a light tan embroidery nearly to bottom hem, where pink thread is again incorporated. Back is decorated below neckline with a single line of dark pink embroidery, below which sits a small flower motif in yellow, light pink and light green.

Skirt composed of strands of alternating beaten and unbeaten flax stalks forming a horizontal striped pattern where the unbeaten stalks are a light yellow colour, and the beaten segments are a dark brown colour. The stalks hang from a woven waistband made of dark brown braided fibre with long ties on each end, also braided.

Cape3011/1

Shoulder cape. Long and narrow with a woven flax band at top that holds four long braided and twisted ties at the upper corners. Long braids of flax are attached to the band and fall down in front of the cape’s open weave middle section, mixing with a thick row of hanging flax stalks at bottom. The stalks are the unprocessed ends of the woven fibre making up the rest of the cape, and create sound when moved. The top half of cape is decorated and reinforced with horizontal stripes of finely woven fibre, dyed brown.

Green damask silk pants. The pants have a wide natural cotton waistband, centre gusset and wide straight pant legs. The bottom of the legs have a border with endless knot, coin, fan, castanet, scroll and floral motifs embroidered in gold on blue ground, edged with pink bands. The damask is woven with a floral motif. The inner lining is natural-coloured linen.

Cushion Cover1458/17

Light brown embroidered cushion cover. The centre square has floral and swastika motifs surrounded by a circle of large abstract motifs. There is a meander border around the outside with inset triangular corners. The back is undecorated. One side of the cover is unstitched.

Cream coat with a short standing collar, long wide sleeves and centre opening with brass frog fasteners. Below the waist, the coat divides into narrow handing panels. On the front, back and sleeves are butterfly, peony and prunus motifs on cream ground. The sleeves have a border with red peony motifs on brown ground, edged with pink trim, round mirrors and gold braid. On the hanging panels are lotus, chrysanthemum and peony motifs on cream ground. The centre panels also have fire and mountain motifs. The upper lining is natural coloured linen, the lower lining is blue cotton.

Long multicoloured vest. The vest has a centre opening with a tie closure. The sides are open, held together by two crossed bands. The collar border has peony, prunus, chrysanthemum and butterfly motifs on an ecru ground, with pink trim. On the front and back is a diamond pattern in blue, red and ecru. The border around the edges has peony, prunus, chrysanthemum and butterfly motifs on a ground, with orange trim. There are mirrors and white fur on the front and back. The inside lining is natural-coloured linen.

Ecru jacket with appliqué circles on the centre front and back. The jacket has a rounded neck, wide sleeves and a centre opening with brass frog closures. There are slits in the sides and back. The circles have four toed dragon motifs in silver, yellow, pink and blue on a pale green ground. There are mirrors, tin reflectors, green glass eyes and white fur within the circles. There is black and gold trim around the edges of the sleeves and bottom hem. The inside lining is natural-coloured linen.
