Moccasins1193/1 a-b

The moccasins are brown with multicoloured beadwork on the tongue insert. The moccasins are made from two pieces of skin. One piece forms the sole and sides with a single seam on each heel. The other piece forms the inset tongue. The tongue piece is decorated with multicoloured beads in a 'V' pattern with a scalloped top edge. There is light brown stitching around the top of the tongue and the opening for the foot.

Headdress473/20 a

The headdress has a wooden frame and is decorated with metal discs, seeds, beads, fur and coins. The very top of the headdress is covered with black fabric. On the top of the cylinder-shaped wooden frame, there six wooden rings wrapped with gold fibre. Beneath the cylinder-shape, the wooden frame becomes one-sided and flares out. Beneath the rings there are alternating rows of silver-coloured metal discs and white beads. Three red fur tassels with red and green wool ends hang from the top of the headdress. Also from the top hang loops of black fibre with pieces of monkey skin ? and white seeded tassels with red and green wool ends. From the sides of the headdress hang more black tassels, red fur tassels and loops of red and white beads. From the bottom of the headdress hangs a brown strap with ten coins of varying sizes sewn onto each side of the strap.

The fan has thin black-brown feathers and a decorated handle. The handle is made from a piece of wood doubled over and covered in a thick black substance, possibly resin. Pushed into the black substance are many teardrop-shaped gray seeds. There is one large blue bead among the seeds.

Necklace made of yarn tassel, plastic buttons, and engraved brass beads. The main part of the design consists of engraved cylindrical brass beads with various other beads throughout that start with a pair of rounded, concave brass semi-circles that have at either side until the other end that has a pair of engraved five-fingered/teeth comb-like brass beads and a rounded, concave brass semi-circle, the following: a green bead; a two-toned brown yarn tassel; a brown beaded figure with white heads that are held together with red and brown yarn; a yellow bead; a pair of engraved five-fingered/teeth comb-like brass beads; a two-toned brown yarn tassel; and a metal ring that has three protruding inset gems?

Standing female figure. Features are carved. Has tapering oval inlaid eyes, a nose, a closed red mouth, and a white line around the face that goes around above the eyes and angles downward near either cheek side. Hair is white in a grooved and upraised square pattern. Body is black. Armbands around the biceps consist of seventeen white bands below the wider red wood band. Belt is cream-coloured with red along the top. Ear ornaments are circular white hoops that have a black ridge around the middle. Anklets and bracelets are in white and red. Wood necklace is carved with five red bands and three white 'beaded' sections . Also has a deep pink-red beaded necklace with wiring. Has galvanized iron handle at the back.

Standing male figure (part a) with arms bent upward at the waist. Has tapering oval inlaid eyes, a nose, a closed mouth, and a white line around the face that goes around above the eyes and angles downward near either cheek side. Hair is white in a grooved and upraised lozenge pattern. Body is black. Fibre bands are wrapped around the biceps that consist of eight horizontal white bands below the wider red wood band around the upper portion that has a vertical zigzag pattern. Large necklace around the neck consists of a white circular loop with three rectangular pendants below, the left one of which has white, red, and blue beads and red fibre coiled around the top. Wears a white waist belt and leg bands just below the knees. Left hand holds a shield (part b) and right hand holds an axe (part c). The shield is made of light yellow wood that is pointed at both ends and painted with a black design at either end. The smaller end has a face(?) with oval grey eyes surrounded by three emanating horizontal black lines with a long nose that extends downward into a w-shaped mouth. The larger end has a horizontal black band that has nine plain boxes within and from which, a black line that is interrupted by a square hole and that extends downward toward the tip end along the centre into a w-shape. Fibre is attached at the back of the shield. The wooden axe has a slighty convex, curving red-brown shaft that tapers to a point and has a black arched blade at the other end with an upward pointing triangular feature just above the handle end.

Painted wolf mask. The mask is brown with a long rounded snout, large rounded ears and high nostrils. There is a black circle and trailing line on each side of the nose. The nostrils and the inside of the ear are painted red. The teeth are white. The inside of the ear and the lips are outlined in green. The oval eye is white with clear round glass in the centre. Above the eye is a pointed black eyebrow. The lower jaw is missing and a wooden block has been added for support.

Cradle BoardA17206

Cradle board with a doll laced-up inside the bundle. The doll is covered in a beige and white striped blanket so that only the head is visible. The beige blanket is partially wrapped by a black cover with red trim and white stitching. There is white fibre lashing the black and red cover together, securing the doll within. The black and red cover is attached to a wooden board, upon which the doll rests. There is a small pillow under the doll's head. Attached to the sides of the board and extending upwards in an arch is a multicoloured bead covered wooden frame with beaded hide fringes.

Long, tall wood sculpture. Has green oval inset eyes surrounded bya downward curving red band pointing toward the thin nose which has a bit of hair ? underneath at either side. The open red mouth is showing black teeth. Has a red body with the hands holding a long, thin serrated object in front of it while a smaller length of the same serration is at either side to the elbows. Wearing a tall headdress that is has a black helmet-like feature with four thin upward curving protrusions all around that are decorated with serrations and downward pointing red and black triangles. Standing on a plain, cylindrical wood pedestal.
