Cantonese Opera PanelN1.683 b

Black leg panels attached across the top by a wide, natural-coloured linen band with two long ties. On the front are peony, prunus, bat, vase and fu dog motifs in silver, blue, green, purple, white and pink on a black ground. Beneath the vase motif are yellow, green, pink and turquoise. There are green glass eyes, tin reflectors and white fur on the panels. The inside lining is white cotton.

Red robe with wide extended sleeves, side slits, side opening and banded neck edge. Dragon, fish and wave designs on the front and back, in gold pink and blue on red ground. Collar, sleeve and border bands with endless knot, rare vase, wheel, hsi and double gourd symbols in gold and pink on medium blue ground. There are mirrors, green glass eyes and tin reflectors on the front and back. Belt carriers are silver chrysanthemums on light green ground stiffened with paper and glue. The inside lining is yellow linen.

Cylindrical, clear glass vase covered by a woven swamp grass sleeve: wrapped twined weaving with plain twined weaving on base. Two double bands of green stripes, three double bands of purple and orange block bands, with two groupings of purple and red flowers. Upper rim of basketry flares outwards from the rim of the vase.

Beaded hide apron with straight top and five scalloped panels hanging along the bottom. Top portion is black with white beading on the edge and the rest of the apron is beaded with white beads, is accented with geometric designs in blue, red, pink, yellow, orange, and green beading, and edges are trimmed with blue beads. Two twisted white fibre ties hang down the front.
