Container905/3 a-b

Part a is a long gourd with one end tapered and the other end rounded. Long skin strap attaches to the rounded end of the gourd, loops around the base of the gourd, and extends half way up to the centre of the gourd. Skin strap has three rows of beads: a row of blue beads on one side, a row of white beads(?) in the centre, and a row of red beads on the other side. Further down on the skin strap are two horizontal rows of red, white, and blue, and green, red, white, blue, and red beads. Separating the two lines is a vertical row of beads with a central beaded design. Beaded design has a brown button in the centre. Rest of skin strap is not attached to the gourd, but extends the length of the gourd. Part b is a small cone-shaped cap to the gourd. It is decorated with a band of green, red, and white beaded sections.

Belt1596/2

Thick portion of short beaded strands are attached to a thin band of beads. From the top of the band, the thick portion of beads are ordered: strands of beads are the colours white, blue, white, red, black, red, and white. The long thin band of beads has larger light green beads around the outer rim, a row of three red beads in the centre, and a double row of white beads on the inner rim of the band. Each end of the apron band has brown fibre cording. At one of the ends is a large circular black bead.

Musical Instrument1373/25

Round, brown helmet-like object with a u-shaped carved branch mounted on its top, creating an antler-like appearance. Four strings are strung from one side of the branch to the other--tied at one end, threaded through small holes and tied to coloured beads at the other end. Brown and black string is wound around the base of the branch where it is attached to the helmet-like base.

Neck Ring1689/2

Long tubular beaded neck ring with alternating sections of blue, red, light-green, and white beads. Each section has row of six beads and is separated by a single row of black beads. At each end, there is a section of light pink coloured beads. At one end, there is a fibre loop.

Bone Ornament2664/2

Tibetan ritual bone ornaments are known as rus rgyan (སྣམ་བུ). It is a chest cover made of bone plaques and beads, and turquoise glass beads strung on fabric cords ending with flat copper bells. Central plaques each have Buddha images. Some cords fastened with black wax seals. Iridescent turquoise beads above shoulders of upper Buddha.

Oil Lamp1374/37 a-d

The first piece (part a) is a silver-coloured metal lamp base with a flat circular stand, a two-part stem, a thick circular centre with a circular lid, and a burner with a circular knob inscribed with a diamond on the bottom and the words "DIAMOND" along the top. There are two glass slim bulge chimneys (parts c and d).

Mask864/9

A large light brown wood mask with massive amounts of hair on string flowing down. The round red eyes bulge out with slits carved out underneath. The big wide nose has its nostrils cut out with two pointed protrusions up the sides of the nose. The big open black mouth has red gums and long white teeth with two fangs curved outward to the sides at either ends. There is an elaborate crown headdress with five protrusions curved outward. The large ears are attached to the sides with string and are decorated with red curved lines and the lobes are pierced with black earrings decorated with gold. The tongue is a long piece which falls out down from the mask and is made of red skin decorated with glass mirrors and gold ornaments.

Backless Blouse1098/4

Woman’s or child’s turquoise cotton backless blouse, embellished with designs worked in gold and silver metal wrapped thread. The blouse is made from a large, heavily embroidered panel that forms the entire front of the blouse. There is a vertical neck opening at the centre front, bound with black embroidery; this opening is embellished with three rows of closely spaced circular metallic gold motifs. At each shoulder is a gold inverted heart-shaped figure. Below the armholes, the designs form an apron effect; the design elements, which are scattered over the entire surface, include hearts, squares, geometric forms, tree and flower motifs. Dark red pompoms, circular mirrors and silver and red sequins are placed within the motifs. The sleeve edges are trimmed with beads, sequins and beaded tassels. The bottom and sides are bordered with diamond-shaped motifs, sequins and gold metallic crocheted edging. On the back, separate, small shoulder yokes made from panels of multicoloured, machine-printed cotton broadcloth are sewn at the shoulders and at the underarms, forming close-fitting, abbreviated sleeves. The blouse fastens at the centre back neckline with green twisted fibre ties. There is also a green fibre tie located halfway down the left edge of the blouse and a fibre loop located at a corresponding place on the right-hand side. The embroidery is underlined with red printed cotton gauze.

Dowry Bag1098/2

Small, square, flat, envelope-style dowry bag or purse made by bringing three corners of a square together, using the fourth corner as a triangular flap. Heavily embroidered with square and X-shaped, brightly coloured geometric designs and round mirrors. Loosely twisted fibre cords (red, yellow and green; 52.5 cm in length) with a yellow pompom, are used to fasten the flap shut. The embroidery is underlined with red printed cotton textile.
