Leggings579/3 a-b

Pair of red felt leggings; two roughly rectangular pieces with ties attached to the upper corners and a set of five buttons at the bottom to secure the top and bottom around the leg. Multicoloured, patterned appliqué border around the bottom and two sides. White beads sewn along the sides and bottom edges. White band of felt across the top. Protruding, pointed pieces of felt hang behind the row of bottoms at the bottom; yarn pompoms attached to the tips of the points.

Headdress composed of a strip of grey, red, yellow and black fabric with two rows of green sequins attached at the centre in between two sets of two pendants. Each pendant is cmposed of three multicoloured yarn pompoms and a string of glass silver and blue-green beads with a metal and bead tassel at the end.

Small, embroidered, red envelope style bag, made by folding and stitching three corners of a multi-coloured embroidered square together, leaving the fourth corner open as a flap. The central design motif is a hooked sun disc (circular medallion surrounded by numerous spiral ‘arms’) set within a square, which is surrounded by a row of mirrors and geometric border designs. The majority of the embroidered motifs are worked in fine chain stitch. All edges are finished with a heavy black cord that is couched in place with gold metallic thread. A narrow black cord is attached at the point of the flap. The bag is lined with tan and green machine printed cotton textile with a small floral pattern.

Mittens527/30 a-b

Pair of brown moosehide mittens attached to each other via a braided green, red, white and grey woolen cord with tassels. Dark brown beaver fur trim around tops. Light brown band of fur in middle of mittens. Area between the bands of fur on the top sides of the mittens are covered with black, blue, red, orange and grey fabric and beaded with multicoloured hearts and stars. Cut hide fringe down one side of each mitten. Hudson's Bay blanket used for lining.

A flat, rectangular bag constructed from very heavy, flat-weave, patterned wool textile and decorated with twisted fringe, tassels and a wide band of braided latticework. The bag is predominantly brown, with several horizontal bands of light yellowish brown geometric motifs, consisting of arrangements of diamonds and triangles. The horizontal bands are trimmed with brown, black and dark orange twisted fringe. The wide decorative latticework band at the bottom of the bag is comprised of thick strands of braided fibre that are interlocked with one another and trimmed with white glass beads. A 4.5 cm wide woven wool shoulder strap is attached to the top of the bag. Its design and weave differ from the textile of the body of the bag.

Embroidered, multi-coloured, flat, square envelope style bag or purse made by folding and stitching a square piece so that three of its corners meet in the centre, leaving the fourth corner free to form a flap. The seams are roughly sewn with yellow thread. The geometric embroidered designs are worked in white, black, blue and yellow silk floss on red, loosely-woven cotton textile. In addition to stitchery, the piece is embellished with mirrors.

Dress Panel Textile1201/28

Densely embroidered square textile, stitched overall with meandering patterns worked in orange thread in chain stitch on a background of purple silk or cotton textile. The design field is divided into four equally sized squares, separated from one another with rows of narrow gold metallic braid. The textile is embellished with five large (4 cm) ornamental discs, made from several layers of black cotton textile, topped with a layer of red cotton textile and embellished with white cowrie shells, blue glass beads and white shell buttons; one of these discs is located at the centre of each of the four sides of the textile, and there is one in the centre. The textile is edged with blue and white glass beading on all four sides. The embroidery is backed with a layer of dark red cotton textile.

Rectangular wallet-style purse, heavily embroidered with couched metal-wrapped thread and appliquéd mirrors. The embroidery designs are linear, with rows of mirrors and shiny strips arranged in rows. The metallic thread is silver which is couched with orange thread, making the metallic thread appear to be gold. Decorative embroidery stitches are worked in purple thread. The top and side edges of the wallet are trimmed with multicoloured glass beads. There are two small pockets and one large pocket on the reverse side.
