BasketA6358 a-c

Cedar bark basket with no seams (sides have collapsed). Inside the basket were found fragmented strands of dentalium shell, blue beads, and bark (now grouped as part b); and a large quantity of loose dentalium shells and fragments (now grouped as part c).

Necklace3595/22

Square beaded pouch with beaded strap. The pouch is mostly white, with a pattern composed of alternating pink, green, and black diagonal lines. There is a line of green beads along the opening of the pouch. There are two white beads in this line on the same side of the pouch. There are four red beads placed horizontally about a third of the way down from the opening. The bottom of the pouch is composed of strands of larger white beads, and a line of smaller black beads. The strand is composed of 21 large white beads, with alternating sections of red and black and pink and black beads. There are also smaller white beads on either side of most of the large white beads, except the two that are closest to the pouch's opening.

Apron3560/1

Beaded hide apron with straight top edge and five scalloped panels hanging along the bottom edge. Top half consists of a plain hide band, trimmed with white beading, above a larger rectangular panel; long hide ties extend from either side of band. Bottom half decorated with white beads with geometric, linear, and V-shaped motifs throughout; done in dark blue, dark green, dark yellow, red, black, and light purple beading. All scallop edges are trimmed with dark green beads. Back of apron is undecorated.

Wasa watana (hair tie) woven in a complementary warp weave. Tassels formed by adding a single intersecting warp band to each end. Small white and silver beads, threaded on the weft before weaving, line the edges of the main band and the intersecting warp bands. Warp fringes. Woven of commercially spun yarn, probably synthetic or a blend.

Wasa watana (hair tie) woven in a complementary warp weave. Tassels formed by groups of intersecting warps that are woven as separate bands but are then folded and sewn to the main band near the ends. Tassels sewn onto the main band. Edging of small white beads on the edges of the main band and the tassels; the beads were threaded on the weft before weaving. Warp fringes. Alpaca fibre, finely spun, with wool.

Hair Tie3486/17

A pair of non-identical wasa watana (hair ties) woven in complementary warp weave, and sewn together. Each has tassels formed by intersecting warps that are woven as separate bands, but each end of each hairtie has a different branching conformation. Both hair ties are edged with small beads, which were threaded on the weft yarn before weaving. Another complete hair tie with intersecting warps is folded and inserted between the non-identical hair ties and sewn in place. Alpaca and sheep’s wool.

Synthetic woven band (watana) with beads along the sides and fringe ends. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, purple, and beige strands are woven together into the triangular and diamond geometric motif of the band. The beaded border is predominantly opaque white seed beads, with paired red beads appearing near one end of the band and near the centre, and two sections of multicoloured beads. The smaller segment of multicoloured beads is near the centre of the band on the top edge in blue, green, transparent yellow, and transparent blue. The larger segment of multicoloured beads at the end of the band with dark blue, yellow, green, orange, and red beads on both edges.

Band (watana) with fringe ends and beaded edging. Red, dark blue, and off-white yarn are woven together to form the design with diamonds, hearts, triangles, and other geometric motifs separated by small vertical lines. A border of mustard yellow, red, and dark blue extend across the top and bottom edges of the band, with small round transparent green beads spanning the majority of the border.
