Cantonese Opera Boots2967/33 a-b

Pair of calf-high boots with blue embroidery and gold thread couching. The boots have thick white soles curved upwards at the front. The foot is demarcated from the calf with brown piping, and there are vertical lines of piping at the front and at back. The embroidery on the foot is a blue design, incorporating a figure with two white eyes with black pupils. Blue flower petals with blue vines are visible on the calf section of the boot. There are white cotton ties on the top of the boots, at back.

Jacket2902/115

Small short purple jacket. Collar is high, made of off-white fabric with red and gold embroidery. Front of jacket has off-white and red rectangular applique with colourful starburst embroidery. There is a vertical row of clear buttons on each flap. Two buttons on the right side of the jacket used to fasten it shut. Around the white and red applique at the front are embroidered curlicues. The bottom of the jacket and cuffs of sleeves have off-white trim. The back of the jacket has a band of red embroidery with gold stitching and purple and green designs that extends around the sides of the jacket. Each side of the jacket has a long tassle of multi-coloured wool.

Hat is red with black trim and has a thick red rope-like trim around the outside, culminating in a loop at pinnacle of hat. The hat is decorated with triangle appliques, gold threaded swirl designs, and blue threaded star designs. The points of each triangle applique have tufts of green, light brown, and burgundy thread.

Bracelet2923/1

Gold raven bracelet; hand cut and repoussé elements on head, body and wing ovoids. The raven faces right with its body and wings wrapping all around the bracelet. The bracelet raven is essentially the same raven as the matching brooch except wrapped around the wrist, with the body lengthened, the wing feathers lengthened and the wings and feet tucked in more.The hinge is at the end of the tail feathers and the end of the raven’s right wing feathers; the clasp is a right wing ovoid. Inscription on hidden clasp: “HAIDA ART Reid. Bracelet is part of a set with brooch and earrings (2923/2-3 a-b).

Earrings2923/3 a-b

Pair of screw-on gold raven earrings. On one the raven faces right and on the other the raven faces left. The raven image is similar but modified, compared to the matching brooch--the head is more downturned and only one wing is shown on each, but they are very detailed. Earrings are part of a set with bracelet and brooch (2923/1-2). Inscription on one earring is "Haida Art," on the other is "Reid."

Frog brooch. A small brooch in the shape of a frog with all four legs extended (the left, rear leg extends further than the right). The pin features two large eyes, a wide mouth, and a bony framework outlined on the back. The surface is lightly stippled. The long pin on the reverse of the brooch extends diagonally from the left, front leg to the right, hind leg. Faint hand inscription on underside, in centre: “R'70 A/P”.

Ring2827/50

Ornate gold ring encircling an engraved stone displaying a seal. The design in the stone depicts a horseman holding reins in his left hand, while his right hand supports a large bird. A small animal, perhaps a dog, runs beside the horse's feet. The green stone sits high, held in place by two gold posts on the top and on the bottom of the ring. A three-dimensional representation of a lion head can be seen on either side of the ring. The band of the ring is thick and decorated with lozenges.
