Button Blanket3051/7

Button blanket. Rectangular, dark blue blanket with two vertical black stripes as background for images of 11 small frogs surrounding two large front facing birds (owls?), wings slightly spread, all cut out of red fabric and sewn to the blanket. The eyes of each animal are white shell buttons; their faces have been drawn in what appears to be graphite. The same red fabric lines the top and edges of the blanket, with two rows of white buttons decorating the upper corners. The top centre edge is covered with tan and red fabric, with two cloth ties attached to each side. The back of the blanket is undecorated.

Boat Carving2796/4

Solid wood carving of a boat with male and female accordion players and two birds glued onto the deck. The figures have a micorphone on a wire between them, and red lips and pencil darkened eyes and eyebrows. The birds also have darkened eyes, mouths and ears. "2002", "Vamos a Madeira a Manha" and "Sendas" are carved along the front side of the boat. Square notched portholes are carved all the way around the boat. A railing for the deck has been made from bent pieces of thin branches, glued into holes.

Solid wood carving of a boat with three accordion players (one woman, two men) standing facing sideways on the deck (glued in place). All three figures have red lips and pencil darkened eyes and eyebrows. Sendas 2003 is carved into the lower side of the front side of the boat. Conjunto Maria Alb (Maria Albertina Band) is carved across the back side of the boat. Square notched portholes are carved all the way around the boat. A railing for the deck has been made from bent pieces of thin branches, glued into holes.

The rider is carrying a sword (glued into his right hand) and has red lips and pencil darkened mustache, eyes and eyebrows. The horse also has darkened eyes and a carved harness. "Sendas 2000" is carved into one side. "Para A Frente Eque O Caminho Cavaleiro" is carved along the other side. Square notched portholes are carved all the way around. A railing for the deck has been made from bent pieces of thin branches, glued into holes.

The sheep also has darkened circular eyes and mouth and is carved from a lighter coloured wood. "Sendas 200" is carved into the lower side of the front side of the boat. Retablo Altar2738/197

Brightly painted portable "retablo" box altar. Two doors open outwards from the centre on leather hinges to show a scene commemorating the discovery of America in 1492, with three ships (caravels) in a dragon-filled sea. The exterior sides of the box are painted with blue dots while the doors on both sides are painted with floral motifs in red, purple, yellow, and black on a white background.

WhistleA6196

Brown wood double reed whistle made of two single double reed whistles of equal length bound together by grey twine. Both pieces are rectangular in cross section and come to a tapering end and are bound in twine around near the smaller end. While the wider end is solid on each piece, there are two hollows (four in total) through the tapering end where there are two taper cut rectangular holes (four in total) nearby on opposite sides. On each piece one taper cut rectangular hole is lower than its opposite due to a horizontal graphite bar inlaid just above. On each side, one piece shows the graphite inlay while the other piece shows the higher taper cut rectangular hole. Sealed with pitch.

Ornament1373/57

Round, convex, white-brown carved and coloured object with a zigzag border encompassing it. The main body consists of a circle divided into three sections by two vertical double lines. The middle section features a thick zigzagging shape running from top to bottom while the two outer sections each have a rectangular shape with one side curved to follow the circular outer edge of the object as a whole. All three carved shapes contain carved, raised ribs, thick, grey, pencil-like lines, and are surrounded by negative space. The top of the object features a protruding, angular design with two small carved circles and a small triangular hole at the apex.
