Working knife (part a) with wooden scabbard (part b). Blade is an elongated wedge shape, that widens toward the end and is covered with a sticky, oily residue. The top end of the blade angles up toward the handle. The handle is thinner near the blade and is covered in a band of interwoven brass wire near the join. The join area of the blade is covered with a hardened black substance. The handle then widens out and has four ridges carved across the end. The wooden scabbard is made of two halves pegged together and has a floral design carved on the upper side near the top. There are four woven bands of grass encircling the scabbard, as well as a twisted double strand of string. The top end of the blade has a stamped mark in the shape of a tiger with two oblong marks beside it.
Wooden comb with 14 teeth, widening toward the end. Teeth are held together with three separate woven sections of grass. Bottom is rectangular and has a rectangular hole in the middle. The other two sections are bands of interwoven grass, the middle one wider than the other. Between the two bands there is a red-brown piece of leather that is wrapped around the 5th and 10th teeth and also attached to the grass weaves, with five holes at the top and two at the bottom.
Long curved sword with decorated brass handle. Blade shows part of a maker's mark near handle and is largely tarnished with an oily residue near the hilt. Brass hilt is cross-shaped with a design all around handle area and a round, hollow, bowl-like sphere with a small metal protrusion at the very top. The scabbard is dark brown wood with 9 silver bands of various widths around it - the widest at the bottom. All silver bands are covered in floral and geometric designs with twisted coil borders. Most are loose fitting and seem to have folded paper or card stuck underneath to tighten them.
Knife with long blade and highly decorated scabbard. The blade has carved designs near tip and near handle. Bone handle has inter-woven wires wound around lower part and incised designs covering upper part. Tufts of pink, dark brown and off-white hair are attached at protrusions of handle. Blade has blackened throughout all non-sharpened areas. Part b is a wooden scabbard with four large areas of inlaid bone carving covering much of front, attached by bent metal pins. The bone carving closest to top has a fang-like protrusion sticking sharply out. Between the carvings are many tufts of red, black and white hair and two beadwork bands. The sides are held together with grass bands. At back is a thin pod-like sheath, attached by a grass band and by the woven handle protruding through an opening in the sheath. Dark brown pitch(?) is rubbed over the edges and undecorated areas of the front of the scabbard.
Bone-handled knife (part a) with long pointed metal blade. Base of bone handle has thick band of inter-woven wires wound around it, top has incised designs. At top and protrusion of handle there are tufts of hair, some dyed red, and longer strands of dark human hair. Blade has darkened to almost black in some areas. Part b is a wooden scabbard with incised designs in upper section, and at bottom. It has 14 dark brown double bands of grass encircling it. There are two woven circular designs made of light and dark coloured grass, among the bands. On the upper part there are 14 rows of light coloured grass wound around and through the wood underneath the incised design. Attached to the back of the scabbard is a thinner scabbard that appears to be made from a seed pod(?) which is lashed onto the scabbard with string and wire. There is a braided grass handle attached at the back of the scabbard, and a tie of cotton printed fabric tied to the handle. The wood of the scabbard has a red stain(?) over most of its surface and there is another longer tuft of hair attached behind the scabbard.
78 darts made of very thin bamboo, pointed at both ends. At the top of each dart a round, tapered wooden cover has been slipped over the tip.
Part a is a hollow bamboo tube with part of one side open. Tied inside are nine long thin darts, pointed at both ends. One end of each has been dipped in poison. Parts b and c are two loose darts, also with poison on tips. Part d is a very thin, flat piece of bark or wood used as a wrapper to go around the other parts.
Woven shield with a wider end that tapers to a narrower end; at each end, the sides curve inwards and come to a point; plant fibre border around edge (missing on half of the shield). Front of shield is composed of two layers of cane that are lashed together with rattan with a geometric design at both ends in dark grey. Back of shield has bundle of leaves? that have been folded under the handle and lengthwise.
The object is a woven necklace. The top part consists of a chain of connected circles. From the mid-point of the chain, there is a single, woven strand. On this string, there are 7 pieces of wood (bamboo?) alternating with 6 chains of connected circles made of fibre. At the end of one of these chains, there is a nut casing attached via a fibre string. Also on the single strand, there is a dark brown fibre attached and knotted.
Headdress with multiple cassowary feathers attached on two sides of the circular base. This leaves two segments of the circular band that do not have feathers attached, and the band is tightly wrapped with a plant material all around.
