Basket3000/36 a-c

Large rectangular basket with lid. Walls of basket angle outward from base to inset rim. Decoration is offset groups of beading across entire surface, three lines to a group, in yellow-brown, brown and black. A small cedar loop is attached to the front centre, with a thin braided cord in proximity for fastening the basket closed. Lid (part b) fits snuggly on top of inset rim and has similar pattern to basket on lip and surface. Part c is a small half-circle handle that has broken off one of the short sides of the basket. Both basket and lid have twisted cotton cord remnants on one long side, indicating that the two were once attached.

Basket3000/35 a-d

Large rectangular cedar basket. Walls of basket angle outward from base to inset rim. Decoration is imbricated bark in dark red, black and light tan, large diamonds on the short ends and wide ‘x’ shapes on the long sides. Lid (part b) fits snuggly on top of inset rim and has a series of small imbricated squares across the top surface. Parts c and d are thick, rounded handles that were once attached to the short sides of the basket at the rim.

Basket3000/32

Long, oval cedar basket. Walls of basket angle very slightly outward from base to rim, where a row of twisted cedar lines the mouth. Two long flexible handles of wrapped cedar cross the basket and are attached to its long sides with leather thongs. Decoration is a wide encircling stepped line, in imbricated red and black bark.

Basket3000/31 a-b

Large rectangular basket. Walls of basket (part a) angle outward from base to inset rim. Decoration is an imbricated diamonds, large in the centre, small at top, and lines at bottom and corners, in light brown, dark red and black. Rim is decorated in a thin line of imbrication in the same colours. Lid (part b) fits snugly onto basket lip, and is divided into two sides by a thick line of checked imbrication. Each side has several small diamonds in light brown, dark red, and black. Handles were once attached to the basket’s short sides and lid at centre.

Large rectangular cedar basket. Walls of basket (part a) angle outward from base to inset rim. Decoration is a series of imbricated inverted triangles that form three vertical lines on long sides, and on short sides a single line, with two thin flanking lines. Lid (part b) top has two interlocking diamonds in light brown and black imbrication.

Basket3000/26

Rectangular woven basket in a tight, square weave. Base is a small rectangle, slightly curved walls flaring out toward the wide mouth. The exterior is two-toned, colours indicating a change in weave, dark brown on the bottom and light brown on top. Decoration is black and red bark imbrication in thin vertical patterns, three to a side. Interior weave is unchanged throughout. A rounded handle spans the interior, connecting to rim with pieces of hide; one side is now detached.

Small round basket with lid. Basket is tightly constructed in a small weave, with base and mid-body decorations of purple and red encircling lines. The rim is inset to hold the lid. The lid (part b) fits snugly into the basket’s rim and is decorated on the edge with similar encircling lines in purple and red and an encircling, jagged set of circles on the top. A small protruding knob sits at the centre of the lid surrounded by red and purple circles.

Basket3000/24 a-b

Small round basket with lid. Basket (part a) body is constructed in a tight, small weave while base weave is wider. Two dark lines encircle the bottom with small intermittent lines across the body. The interior shows the presence of green lines on both bottom and body prior to severe fading. The basket’s rim is inset to hold the round lid (part b), which fits snugly. Its top middle is concave, with a round handle painted dark blue, surrounded by lines of green and blue.

Small basket with lid. Basket (part a) base is rectangular with rounded corners, made in a wide weave with a large square weaver at centre. The body of the basket is circular, tightly constructed in a small weave, with two encircling decorative lines on base, and a line of linked red triangles mid-body. The rim is inset to hold the lid. Lid (part b) is round and fits snugly onto basket’s rim. Its top is slightly concave in the centre, and is decorated with a multi-pointed star at middle and circle of triangles around the boarder.

Suspension Hook3014/1

Wood carving of a figure and birds. Figure has a large oval head, painted white, with small, inset shells for eyes, a long nose with flared nostrils, and small mouth. Black circles and half circles decorate the face. The body is painted black, and has thin twisted rope at neck, waist and wrists. Arms hang at sides with hands flat against thighs. Feet are planted on the head of a large face which is painted similar to the figure’s, also with shell eyes, and upward curving horns. Two small birds perch on the temples. Tall birds span the carving from top to bottom, flanking the figure, beaks touching the top of its head. They are decorated with dark brown stripes. Small black and orange wings are folded on their backs. The back of the carving shows the back of the figure and bottom face, painted solid brown.
