Skirt2514/1

Child's grass skirt with a light and dark brown braided top edge that ends with a loop and cord attachment. A woven design at the top consists of alternating light and dark brown lines from which hangs fine strips of brown grass. Some of the woven designs are in a square shape and are attached separately from others. Many sections overlap for a layered effect.

Woven oval mat. Outside ring contains four canoes with three occupants. One person in each canoe holds a weapon. Four animals on outside ring as well. Four thunderbirds in next ring. Inner ring contains two canoes with three occupants. One person in each canoe holds a weapon. Centre of mat contains a design. Same design on circumference of mat as centre. Reverse side of mat shows darker colours.

Necklace of thrity-seven faceted blue glass beads strung on old cord of plant fibre and paper(?), which is attached at each end to leather strips. Strips are sewn around the cord with brown cotton thread.

Basketry HolderA4084

Wicker type of holder with woven loop for hanging it on a wall (?). Holder is formed from an oval of basketry folded up and around to form a pocket. Edge and warp are of dark wood while weft is of light brown grass. A small piece of thread is sewn through a strand of grass on rear interior.

Rectangular basket with domed lid. Coiled cedar root with bifurcated stitches and parallel slat base construction. Basket has flange. Lid is convex and decorated with beaded design in white, black and red. Body of basket decorated with star designs. Lid attaches to basket with four rawhide thongs and two rawhide hinges.

Vase1780/4

Green porcelain vase with white interior. A woven grass covering encases the vase: on the neck is open and solid weaving, and on the shoulder (which tapers to the base) are diamond-shaped interlaced strips; the base is solidly covered. The vase itself bears a floral design with birds. There is a round red stamp on the bottom.
