Model Baby CarrierNb657

Open twined carrier, or cradle, with semi-circular cross-section, wedge-shaped at the bottom with a closed end while open at the top. Wrapped handle forms top structural support and is wrapped in sections of light yellow-brown bear grass. Dark brown bark(?) stick-like warps form a semi-circle out from the handle crossed by clusters of widely spaced twining. Wedge-shaped bottom is twined across the back and up the front. There is one twisted support across the top of the cradle.

Rectangular basket with two braided handles sewn on with black thread. Base has wide strips of checker weave cedar bark. Sides are of grasses woven in a diagonal pattern with two strips of cedar woven in near the top and bottom, each edged with a faded purple stripe. The upper edge has grasses coiled around it. Woven into both sides is a design of a purple eagle clutching an arrow.

Round, twined bowl with a slightly flattened bottom. Overlaid horizontal, light white-brown bear grass band around the outside of the basket below the rim. There are repeating sets of three black rectangles, with the centre one below the others, along the band. Single row of twill twining ? at the bottom where it flattens.

Flat, round, twined tray with concentric design bands on the top surface and two sets of two wrapped, raised rings on the bottom and at the rim and over halfway to the centre. Design includes the following: light yellow-white bear grass at the rim and alternating brown background in the third row; and wide band of overlaid bear grass with three repeating band-like motifs, each with similar triangular appendages. Two of these appendages have a diagonal row of black fern stem at one end; single row of background; row of alternating bear grass and background; two rows of bear grass; three rows with evenly alternating rows; and several centre rows that are the background.

An arrow shaft, 91 cm. long, of pitpit (sword grass). The foreshaft is a 4 cm. (between bindings) length of black palm wood, secured to the shaft with a sleeve of woven rattan 1.5 cm. wide. The lanceolate point is a flat piece of bamboo 1.5 cm. wide projecting 18 cm. beyond the binding. The point is bound to the foreshaft by a band of bark cord 11 cm. wide coated with yellow clay.

A flat bag of twill-weave light brown grass, woven in one piece, rectangular in shape, and open at one narrow end. The edge of the opening is finished by turning ends of grass back and weaving in. There is a double row within 1.5 cm. of the open edge. The handle of braided root fibre (?), 51 cm. long and tied at mid-length, is affixed to the opposite corners of the bag by threading through the weave.

A bamboo section of a pipe with two segments. The top segment has been perforated to allow passage of smoke to the mouthpiece, which is simply an upper cut end of bamboo section, where 15 cm. from the bottom of the pipe, there is a hole 1.5 cm. in diameter, blackened by smoke, apparently for insertion of tobacco.

Open, handbag-style, rectangular coiled basket of cedar root with cedar slat foundation and sides. Handle is braided across top of loop work and at rim of basket on short sides. Three rows of wrapped looping below semi-circular handles. Looping is two rows of continuous triangle shapes and a bottom row of looped curls. Beaded and imbricated decoration on sides includes three rows of undyed light brown grass checkerboard design over top and bottom coiled rows. Stylized butterfly-like motif on each end and repeated twice on each side. Each butterfly has four 'wings' of cherry bark beading; each wing is three rows of over one, under one, over two, under one, and over one. Between the wings, top and bottom is one imbrication section of cherry bark and at the centre of the wings is two cherry bark with a grass imbrication element between.
