Basket with a body and base of wicker plaiting on flat rigid warp with split cane weft. Decoration of false embroidery in geometric patterns of crosses and stripes, and securing rim of double splints. The base has light yellow-brown stitches, creating triangles around the base. Stiff, coiled handle, wrapped with rope, formed by two rope strands attached to either side of body with a single knot at the base. Some fading two loose strands of grass, knotted together inside the basket.

Basket with body and base of wicker plaiting on flat rigid warp with weft of split cane in alternating bands of purple and green. Decorations consist of false embroidery of natural coloured grasses in geometric designs of crosses and stripes. Rim of two splits secured by decoration. Five strands of natural-coloured rope interwoven through either side with two knots at the base form a double handle at the rim. One handle is stiff and coiled while the other handle is a single, longer, loose rope strand.

Wicker plaited basket with flat rigid warp and wefts of split cane. Attached rim and base. Rim is three splints wrapped in red raffia. Base is of a single splint covered with red, purple, and green plain plaiting. Soft handle of six strands of purple rope knotted together and attached to the rim at either side. Decoration consists of false embroidery on the body of the basket in geometric patterns of stripes and crosses in red, purples, and green with six strands of purple and green rope attached to the upper edge under the rim.

Flat FanEd1.187

A flat fan made of finely-split bamboo flaring out from its attachment point to a long wood handle painted black. Perimeter of fan is circular except for the lower edge where the handle is attached which is straight and at right angles to the handle. Fan is covered with lacquered paper that has a design of three swirls converging at the centre coloured red-orange, black, and yellow. It has a narrow edging of black paper. The fan is inserted into a split in the handle which is flat and shaped like a pointed oval where it covers the fan, which is attached with two rivets. The shape of the handle is repeated with an outline of orange paint on the fan.

A light brown-coloured elongated oval wood piece carved as human head (part a). Hair protrudes from the top and extends as a point over the forehead. Facial features are in relief. One horizontal step is cut for the eyebrows. The eyelids surround slit-like eyes filled slightly with silver foil(?). The long nose is pierced with knotted raffia. The cheekbones are peaked, and deeply recessed below, are formed by elevated sections resembling a nose form which continues around to the back of the head. The lips are formed by adding two balsa(?) pieces to the mouth. Faint traces of iron oxide, and black, and white paint. Raffia binding passes through pierced holes at the top back of the head. Dark brown wrapped bamboo ring (part b) with fine wicker work is added out from the edge with the ring width tapering in at one point. (One knotted fragment (part c) is separate)

Rectangular grass mat of fine regular weave. The mat is natural coloured with designs in red-purple and blue-green. In the centre is a rectangle with a peacock motif in each corner. Outside the rectangle are inward-facing elephant motifs. The thick border around the sides has a vine and leaf motif. The ends of the mat have red bands.

Rectangular woven mat of madur grass and string. The mat has a large border around all sides in purple and green on a natural-coloured ground. The border has many motifs within squares, including a peacock, elephant, butterfly, temple, fighting men, water carrier, man with umbrella, and horse. The centre is without design. Long weaving threads are tied off at one end.

Child's Flat FanEd1.183

A small flat, rectangular fan with two lobes at the top. On a frame of very fine bamboo strips radiating out from the centre of the lower edge where the handle is mounted. Both sides are covered with paper and are lacquered green with a painted black design like a paper cut around near the handle are mounting, enclosing an orange painted design shaped like a half-marquise. Straight wood handle is painted red and split to allow insertion of fan.
