Water Jar2738/89

Squat, bulbous water jar of reddish brown undecorated clay has rounded bottom, short neck, wide mouth. A long strand of fibrous bark runs though two wide verical lugs at middle and is knotted to form a handle. There are two small splashes of yellow paint, one at side, the other on the bottom.

Headdress2738/206

Chimborazo-style headdress. Canvas is stretched and sewn around a rounded, grass-rope-bound wood frame that is stuck into a flat, rectangular piece of wood and mounted with red yarn onto the top of a painted paper mache cowboy hat. Numerous small objects sewn onto the red foil that covers the canvas at the front include small framed mirrors, plastic figures, strands of plastic and metal beads, wispy feathers, and paper cards. A large metal plaque decorated with a two-headed bird is tied onto the front brim of the yellow, white, blue and red hat.

Ceramic ritxoko doll. Sitting female figure of light brown clay painted in red and black. Rolled tube of clay draped over head forms long black hair style and arms with flat ends. She is wearing a grass skirt that is threaded through a hole in her body and knotted at the back. Sharply pointed breasts and stubby conical legs have tattoo decoration.

Large, deep rectangular basket with handles (a) and lid (b). A cross with a diamond shape at the end of each arm is woven into each of the sides in black or red cherry bark. A long foot or platform protrudes out from the edge of the base. Diamond and linear designs in red and black cherry bark on top and sides of lid.

A light coloured, curved wood handle is tied on near the head of the cradle with strips of soft rawhide and several more strips are knotted on at either end and inside.

Corpus Christi Breastplate2738/56

Breastplate of a Corpus Christi dancer's costume with shoulder straps and rope waist ties, made from pink, red and brown scraps of material. Sewn onto the front is a square of dark maroon material bordered with silver foil, in the centre of which is a three dimensional wooden lamb covered with a blanket, painted entirely in gold and adorned with tiny metal objects, strings of blue, green, silver and fake pearl beads, and gold foil.
