Backstrap LoomSa449 a-g

A loom (parts a-g) with an unfinished woven wool textile consisting of burgundy, orange, blue, pink, green and yellow 8-forms on a burgundy and white striped ground. The textile is attached to two large, cylindrical shaped wooden sticks (part a); one at each end. Intertwine in the multi-coloured warp is a cylindrical shaped heddle covered in white twine (part c); a flat, rectangular batten with triangular, pointed ends (part d); two shed rolls (parts e-f) and a permanent bar (part g). Part b is a rectangular shaped, brown woven backstrape with brown and green twine ties at each end.

Canoe BailerNb580

Small canoe bailer made of cedar bark with wooden handle. Outer bark on exterior surface, but removed from ends which are pleated and tied to the wooden handle. The ends are secured with white cotton string which has been covered over with red cherry bark. An off-white coloured plant material, possibly yellow cedar bark, has been wrapped loosely around the length of the handle in the manner of a decoration. Small wooden splints have been inserted between the inner and outer bark, two on each side, to keep the edges straight.

Tapa Cloth556/2

Large tapa cloth with designs in two shades of brown on natural ground. Four lengthwise panels with various designs of stars, birds, heraldic and diagonals with writing. One end is cut close to the centre panel, the other has blocks with brown marks and numbers. The cloth is made of several pieces attached together.

Knife2516/15 a-b

Knife (part a) with an L-shaped wooden handle, incised at top. Between handle and blade is a metal band which is mostly gold coloured, but silver underneath. The blade is shaped: it begins narrow at the handle end, then extends on one side convexly, narrowing again at the tip to a point. The upper edge of the blade runs to a gentle peak at the centre and then sloping down again to the tip. The scabbard (part b) is made of two pieces pegged and lashed together. On both sides is an incised line, painted black, that starts 2.5 cm from the top and runs the length of the scabbard, terminating in a black triangle. There are 4 dark brown braided bands encircling the scabbard, approx. 5.5 cm apart. (A fifth is missing.)
