FluteSf1135

Long, yellow-brown flute with carved holes made from a bamboo-like length of reed grass. A separate reed is fitted into the mouthpiece and secured in place with twine. Wool and cotton string are wrapped around the lower portion of the flute in two places.

Basketry Side TableA7252

Coiled basketry table constructed from cedar splints and unidentified wood foundation. Coiled cedar root elements and watch-spring construction of lower shelf and table top. Rim of table is finished with a whipped stitch. Imbricated design on table top and shelf in red and black cherry bark forms five sided star.

Oval woven mat; fine lattice twined weaving. Design says 'MRS. REID / VANCOUVER / B.C.' in green and purple with a patterned orange, purple, and black band below. Encircled with two rows of burgundy. Sides have green, purple, and red animal and bird figures. One end has a potted plant and the other end has an arrow-like pattern. The rim also has two rows of burgundy.

Cylindrical basket (a) with lid (b); lid has a raised, two-tiered knob in the centre. Woven around the sides are the images of a fishing boat and dock with buildings, as well as the words " Mrs Reid Vancouver BC." Lid has three boat-like shapes arranged in a concentric band around the knob.

Woven basket with spruce root warp and weft with design elements in dyed spruce root and dyed grass. Various twined weaves - base is mixed twined weave (plain twining alternating with wicker weave). Sides are plain twined with wide twilled border. Grass is embroidered on, the handle is overcast. The horizontal coloured design is bound by purple spruce lines. Orange shapes are staggered, then another purple band. These shapes create a band of purple "S's", then there is another band of purple, orange and the purple again. The rim has a twilled chevron pattern.

Woven basket with a spruce root warp and weft with aniline dyed grass. Various twined weaves - base is a mixed twined weave (alternate plain twined weave and wicker weave). Sides and lid have a plain twined weave with an embroidered decoration. Design is a central band of false embroidered diamonds in bright pink bordered by bands of black weft strands. Design on lid is similar, but also has an additional band of pink on the edge of the knob-like handle.
