Blowgun1327/2

Blowgun with long, cylindrical bamboo shaft and conical, slightly bulbous wooden end. Bands of incised geometric designs near ends and one third of the way along the shaft from the wooden end. Metal coiled around open end and held in place with resin. Two bands of braided plant fibre at conical end.

Square box with four triangular flaps for lid. Sides are coil basketry with light brown grass coil and black thread; lid flaps are of birch bark perforated with star designs and edged with grass and light coloured thread; base is of darker birch bark. Two of the flaps are joined with a loop of grass rope. Label on bottom says, "sweet hay, birch bark, porcupine quill work" and is signed.

Two vertical sticks encased in orange wax at the top. Each stick has a shorter stick attached at its base with paper at a forty-five degree angle. On both sticks the orange wax also has three coloured marks on it--yellow, white and green--and a large white wick emerging from the top.

Shell Basketry1003/18

Basketry covered abalone shell. The main weave is light brown with a colourful centre beginning with purple on the inside and working its way outward with yellow, red, green, and red. The sides are woven with purple animals and "UCLUELET. BC." in green. The rim has three rows of red-green-red around the edge.

A brown flat piece curved around so that the ends overlap. Woven over the flat curved piece, there is a dark brown and light brown geometric design which ends wrapped around a stick at both ends attached to the flat curved piece through two holes.
