Short, cylindrical basket (a) with a fitted lid (b); lid has a round knob handle in the centre and is held in place by a cedar bark flange looped with cedar warp strands woven along the upper rim of the basket. Sides are grass and cedar bark, wrapped twined. Bands of black, red, yellow, green and purple linear and geometric patterning around sides and lid. Cedar bark and grass base, plain twined base with central checker work.

Short, cylindrical basket (a) with a flat, fitted lid (b); lid is held in place by a cedar bark flange looped with cedar bark warp strands attached around teh upper rim of the basket. Sides are grass wrapped twined. Cedar bark and grass base, plain twined with checker work centre. Design of purple and yellow striped band around base. Six narrow dark blue bands with double stitching at regular intervals on top and bottom bands around middle. Round lid with five narrow purple and yellow bands around rim. Dark blue sunburst design in centre of lid surrounded by concentric rings of purple, yellow and dark blue.

Fishing CreelNd579 a-b

Fishing creel compoased of coiled cedar root weaving. The basket has an irregular rectangular base, a flat back, three sides that have shoulders narrowing and slanting diagonally up to the top back over a trapezoidal lid with a trapezoidal hole at the centre. Five red and black cherry bark imbricated diamonds decorate three sides. Two hide loops sewn onto two back corners. Lid attached to back with two hide strips. Four imbricated diamond shapes decorate the lid.

Berry BasketNd578

Rectangular, flared, coiled root basket (bifurcated stitches). Elongated watch-spring construction. Imbricated rows of alternating red and dark cherry bark and grass imbrication, however the grass is mostly broken away from the surface. Cotton string attached to rim of one corner, jute cord attached to rim of 3 other corners. Remnants of hide loops attached to long sides of basket.

Fishing creel basket (a) with lid (b). The basket is constructed of coil weaving with an irregular curved rectangular base, concave back and convex sides creating protruding shoulder in lower third of basket narrowing to rounded rectangular mouth. Decorated with a design in red and black cherry bark and off-white bear grass imbrication forming a series of diamonds. Has a hide strap attached to the two back corners. The lid is attached to the basket with two hide ties and is imbricated with a repeated triangle design fanning out from the central hole.

Basketry LidNd576

Coiled rectangular lid. Handle in centre of lid has string foundation and was wrapped with grass. Grass is partly detached from foundation. Rim of lid has cedar bark foundation with wrapped grass intertwined. Only one corner has rim decoration, remainder has broken off. Top of lid has red and black cherry bark and grass imbrication in arrowhead geometrical design.

MaskNb11.223

The shape of the mask is like a high triangle, two planes intersecting on the median of the face. The heavy eyebrows are painted black, but are not raised. The brow slopes and projects sharply above the nose. Each eye is set in a concave orb in the mask. The eye is made up of a painted white ring surrounding a round hole (2 cm. in diameter, 2 mm deep). The hooked nose is long and narrow and merges with the backswept cheek planes. Up-thrusted narrow nostrils are painted orange. The mouth, encircled by a concave recess, is formed by full, protruding lips, drawn back slightly separated and painted orange. Along the top edge of the mask extend strands of black hair shredded and twisted cedar bark strands, and grey-white feathers. Inside the mask is a leather frame to fit the head.

Large rectangular basket with a lid (part b). Basket is made of slat construction with a 2 cm indented foot. Decorated with an imbricated downward pointing arrowhead design in black and red cherry bark and a light-coloured grass, three on each long side and one on each short end. Top slat coil has red cherry bark beading and a 2 cm lip. Sides of the lid (part b) have black cherry bark beading and the top has black cherry bark arrowhead imbrication.

Oval coiled slat basket (part a) with a lid (part b). Basket (part a) has two hide carrying straps. Geometric beading of double outward pointing arrows, creating a diamond shape, decorates the body of the basket using red and black cherry bark and grass. Lid (part b), which also has beaded designs, has a lip which fits tightly into the basket.

Small rectangular basket with slat base construction. Sides are coiled slats. Geometric imbrication decorates four sides using red and black cherry bark and white grass in a continuous v formation on each side, creating a zig zag all around. Rim coil is beaded with red cherry bark.
