Fishing CreelD1.443 a-b

Fishing creel with rounded base that atpers up to a flat lid with a small rectangular hole in the middle, and a slanted, concave back. The basket is constructed of simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches) with parallel slat base construction. Decorated with partial imbrication in a vertical striped pattern in light brown cat-tail, red and black cherry bark.

Rectangular basket with gently flaring sides, an extended, rounded shoulder, and a flat lid attached to the top with cording. Simple coiled work (bifurcated stitches); parallel splint base construction; shoulder; lid slides on four corner strings; partial imbrication. Vertical striped design alternating red and black ribbons with oblique lines in bullrush. Direction of the lines change with every stripe. Design is carried on to lid. Checkerboard diamond shapes on end alternating in red/bullrush/black/bullrush and black/bullrush/red/bullrush; this design is not carried on to lid. Colour: tan.

A light thin bamboo grass knife that is carved, and decorated with a zig zag and a tooth pattern edge along the handle which has a dark "basket weave" pattern on a natural light-coloured background. The end of the handle has a finial carved in the form of a bird head. The wide blade tapers to a blunt point.

Rectangular flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel splint base construction. Most of basket is fully imbricated in cat-tail grass (?), with outline of square in red and dark cherry bark, with triangle on bottom pointing to center, with two smaller triangles in dark cherry bark. Lower quarter of basket is partially beaded in in cat-tail grass. One row of imbrication in cat-tail grass (?) on bottom.

Foot has 2 rows of three stitch bands in red cherry bark, cat-tail grass (?), and dark cherry bark. Coil cedar splint handle attached with buckskin thongs.

Fully imbricated in alternating rows of stepped diagonal bands in dark and red cherry bark and cat-tail grass (?). Foot has two beaded rows, upper in black cherry bark and lower in red cherry bark. Attached lid has same design. Coiled handle at center.
