A tapered stopper (b), fits into a hole near the edge of the top. Bands of twisted bamboo, two near the top, and five of differing widths at the bottom, hold the staves of wood together. Stained reddish-brown overall with a Japanese character inside a circle painted on the outside of each arm, and Japanese characters painted around the centre of the base.
