Bag2981/1

Woven bilum with curved bottom and handle. Fibre surface is decorated with a geometric pattern in pink and purple. Bag is also decorated with seed and feather ornaments, attached with beaded ties, all over one side and the egdes. The woven handle has small cowrie shells wound around it.

Globular shaped rattle with carved facial designs on opposing sides. A hair-like fringe of cedar bark is bunched and tied on with twine strung through holes at sides and top and yellowish rope is coiled around the handle.

Model House2724/1 a-c

Rectangular model village spirit house (haus tamburan) on 14 dark brown carved stilts has a basketry and clay mask with Cowrie shell eyes hanging at each end and a fringe of reddish grass along the bottom. Woven grass rope roof and walls with two small square openings in each are supported by an inner bamboo frame and floor boards. Wood house post finials carved in the shape of birds sit atop the roof peaks at each end; (b) stands upright with engraved markings on chest and light brown open wings while the darker (c) bends forward and looks down, scalloped wings with dark brown markings pointing upwards.

Basket2763/14

Flat, square-shaped, light-coloured woven basket or bag with attached long grass fibre tassels. Made of a panel of basketry, folded in half and sewn along the opposite and bottom edges, it has long braided straps that are the continuation of several of the vertical strands at both top corners; the other vertical strands end in tiny knots that form a fringe along the top rim. Long strands of dark brown are interwoven to create two thick horizontal bands with a light design of opposing chevrons.

Corpus Christi Headdress2738/69 a

Corpus Christi headdress consisting of a grass string bound wood frame over which is stretched a screen made of canvas sacking and a sheet of gold foil. Sewn onto the foil are several shells, strands of beads (glass, plastic and possibly gemstone), earrings, pins, bone hair clips, metal tokens, and coins. A large shell is attached at the top of the headdress.

Ancestor Figure2751/1

Tall wood carving of an ancestor figure standing on a mounded base. Covered with carved body tattoos, a mask-like face on each shoulder, a protruding belly, and large genitalia hanging out from behind a bark loin cloth attached to a grass belt, the figure wears an elaborate mask painted in white, red and black pigments. The mask has large cowrie shell eyes, boar tusks sticking out of the nostrils, elaborate earrings, a feather headdress plus fringe of feathers, and is surrounded with a clay border into which are embedded numerous tiny shells.
