Storage Basket2814/21

Large, round, shallow basket made of thin strips of brown palm, woven into a zigzag pattern. The rim is made up of 7 strips of curved vine, one on top of the other, held on by strips of dark brown palm and ropes of braided fibre running horizontally between the vines, on the outside of the rim. The basket’s sides are firm, while the bottom is pliable.

Sieve2814/20

Large, shallow, circular basket made of thin strips of leaf, woven into a crisscross pattern. The sides are firm, while the bottom is pliable. Attached all around the rim by braided plant fibre and strips of leaf is a curved vine.

Storage Basket2814/17

Large, shallow, round basket made of thin strips of palm woven in a criss-cross pattern. In the interior, parts of the palm have been coloured a dark brown and make diamond and linear patterns in the weave. Six strips of vine circle the inner rim of the basket and are held on by palm fibre. The outside of the basket has a random, possibly unintentional, pattern of lighter fibre intermixed in the weave. The sides of the basket are firrigidm, while the bottom is somewhat flexible.

Large loosely woven basket made of thin strips of guarumo palm leaf. Basket is woven in a zigzag pattern and has a hexagon shaped base with flared sides that widen at the rim. The rim is circular and wrapped with dark brown strips of palm.

Manioc Strainer2814/26

Long basketry strainer/press. This elongated tube is splayed open at one end where it is woven into an open loop. A braided fibre cord is tied around the loop to secure its shape. At the other end, the sheath is tied shut with bent twigs, and expands into another loop. On the loops at both ends, short, loosely braided rope is attached, and resin is embedded into the palm weaving.

Dart Quiver2814/47 a-qq

Dark brown wooden dart holder (part a), with a comb? (b) and 43 darts (parts c-qq). Quiver (a) is long and cylindrical, made of palm wood, with resin around the base. String is tied around the rim and attaches to a woven lid. The lid is woven in a zig zag pattern and there is resin on the top and around the lid. Inside the quiver there is a bundle of sticks wrapped in twine to hold the darts in place. Part b is a wooden rectangle with six triangular points on the top, and a resin coating along the bottom. (c-qq) Each dart is composed of a thin wooden stick with cotton tied to the tips with a thin piece of string.

Dart Quiver2814/45 a-i

Woven dart quiver (part a), with seven darts (parts b-i). Quiver is long and cylindrical with flared sides that widen at the rim. Quiver is tightly woven with a darker brown colour woven into the bottom half in a zigzag pattern. The bottom is flat and capped with resin coated fabric. A twine string is tied around the quiver at the narrowest part at the bottom, perhaps for hanging. Inside the quiver there is a bundle of grass to hold the darts in place. Each dart is composed of a thin wooden stick with cotton tied to the tips with a thin piece of string.

String is tied around the rim and attaches to a lid woven in a zig zag pattern. There is a circular wooden bead attached to the string. Inside the quiver there is a bundle of sticks wrapped in twine to hold the darts in place. Each dart is composed of a thin wooden stick with cotton tied to the tips with a thin piece of string.

Sieve2814/19

Large shallow circular basketry sieve made of thin palm strips woven into a zigzag pattern. Lighter coloured palm strips in the weave create a pattern of widely spaced crossing lines. At the rim are two curved pieces of vine attached to the basket by dark brown wound palm fibre and braided palm fibre. All but the rim of the basket is pliable.
