Light yellow-brown humanoid mask with long tufts of black hair, a movable jaw with prominent teeth, movable eyeballs, and rabbit ear-like protrusions on the top of the head. Mask is sparingly painted with red and black.

Wooden mask adorned with cedar bark fringe at back that extends down past the bottom of the mask. Face is carved forward with a strong downward slant. There are two deeply carved ridges running from nose to temples that are accentuated with black lines. There are heavy black brows at the top of the face, a scalloped design in black below the cheeks, a dark yellow hooked nose with red nostrils, pursed protruding red lips, and a slightly pointed chin with a short horse hair beard. A feather with a long shaft protrudes upwards from one side and there is a bunch of white, grey and grey-brown feathers attached to a pointed piece of wood with adhesive fabric tape (b) and inserted into a hole in the top of the mask. The edge of the mask on the sides of the face and chin is painted brown.

White, conical straw hat with dyed red horse hair cascading from the apex in all directions. Metal finial with a large blue bead at top of hat; attached to the side of the finial's metal holder is a long tassel of coarse black bristles with peacock feathers, stemming from a carved red and white rectangular bead. (Part b is a detached peacock feather piece.)

Hat with narrow, downwardly curving brim and tapering, truncated crown with flat top. Black silk gauze ribbons at each side. Hat is woven of black, shiny material and is translucent. Circular rims around head and edge of brim. This hat is relatively coarsely made, and the crown has only one layer. Hats fits onto hat stand, 1059/2 a-b.

Fly Whisk1373/71

Ornamented, gold leaf covered handle with a long tail of horse hair attached to it. Top of handle has a flared, circular knob upon which a carved, golden rooster sits. Hair is bound in red fabric with two bands of green string at the juncture with the handle.

Hat with slightly curved brim and cylindrical crown that tapers slightly from its base to a flat crown. The structure of the hat is formed by fine split bamboo. Top of crown made of two layers of fine woven horse hair (?); outer layer of sides of crown and top of brim have one layer of the same material. Sides of crown and underside of brim lined with a layer of diagonal weave horse hair or coarse split bamboo. Four lines of stitching on sides of crown forming a cross at top. Small remnants of ribbon tie at side.

Doll representing a male figure carved out of wood with articulated shoulders and ankles. His face and hands are painted white with hair, eyebrows and eyes painted in black, and a mouth painted in pink. A braid hangs down his back, tied at the top with a long black ribbon on one half of which are adhered four square gold decorative elements. He wears a very pale blue hip-length silk jacket lined in white, lapped to his right and tied at the waist with a separate pink sash tied in a single-loop bow. The sleeves of the jacket are made of parallel bands of various bright colours. The jacket has a self-facing at the neck and a narrower white facing. Under it is a white cotton jacket that is slightly shorter. The figure wears full white cotton pants tucked into ankle wrappings which extend over white socks.

Hat (a) made of two layers of finely woven black horsehair with a slightly tapering cylindrical crown, and a broad circular brim. Woven on circles of thin strips of split bamboo at the top of the crown, the base of crown, and the outer brim. Chin straps are of black silk lace ribbon. The separate hat lining (b) is made of more coarsely woven black horsehair that has a seam at the top and has a cord across the centre back to gather and fit to the head.

Official Emergency HatEd1.283

Official emergency hat with flat round brim attached to crown shaped like truncated cone. Inside of hat is made of paper painted black, with a woven texture showing. Outside of hat is covered with fine red silk, with edges trimmed with red paper, and with vertical strips of red paper on each side of the crown, at the bottom of which are small red tubes. On the underside of the brim from the tubes and strips are attached two red silk ribbons that are tied together. Crown of hat projects slightly below its point of insertion into the brim. Brim is somewhat wavy and has black and brown stains.
