Herring HookA8185

A bundle of lines of twined horsehair or gut. To end of each line is fastened a thin brass rod with a very sharp point, bound with thread on to its line at an opposed angle, thus acting as a hook.

Nest of eleven small, round, flat bottomed woven baskets. The outer basket (part a) has a wide band of red around the sides and a lid (part l)--lid has a band of red and a large band of open work encircling its centre. The inner baskets each have a purple rim. Remnants of a braided handle are attached at either side of the outer basket.

Piece of cloth with beading and a fringe. Beading is red with a pattern of blue and green v-shapes. Pairs of tin cylinders with hair tufts hang from one end. The other end has bits of rawhide exposed, suggesting it may have come from a larger object originally.

Model Totem PoleA8082

A model totem pole depicting the figure of Dzunuk'wa and a bear (from bottom to top). Horse hair represents Dzunuk'wa's hair. Her entire body is painted black, except for the mouth, eyes, and the ears which are also painted red. The bear's eyes are surrounded by a dark blue area with black brows and a red line separating the black mouth. Its arms are painted black. There is a nail at each upper corner on the back .

Mask with skull-like features, black eyebrows, closed crescent-shaped red eyes with small holes drilled in the middle. Two red triangles and a slight peak form the nose, and the mouth is open baring two rows of teeth. Two tufts of black horse hair are attached either side of the head at the top. The remainder of the mask is thinly painted with white paint, giving it an overall grey look.

Mask with sweeping black hair that thins towards the ends, an angled, prominent brow, sunken eye sockets with small, oval eye holes, protruding ears at the sides, a hooked nose with pointed tip and large nostrils, a pursed mouth, and black cloth attached to the top of the head with metal nails. The mask is pointed black with white and red bands around the eye holes, red nostrils with white borders, white curvilinear lines under the eye sockets, and red lips.
