Jacket1057/3

Hide jacket with bead work and fringe. The jacket has a short standing collar, long cuffed sleeves and centre opening with hook and eye closures. On the front is a deep ‘U’ shape beneath the collar with a beaded floral motif on black appliqué fabric. There are two pockets on the lower front. There are beaded patches on the front, pockets, shoulders and upper back. Patches include floral motifs, fish skeleton and rectangular shapes. There is fringe on the ‘U’ shape, sleeves and upper back. There are braids of brown hair attached to the back of each shoulder. The inside is unlined.

Feather CapeC1463

Cape composed of various feathers of brown, white, red, and green in a checkered design on an openwork twining weave. The plant fibre twining is carried in pairs with pitch in opposite directions on a weft of dark brown human hair. The feather ends are caught under the rows of plant fibre twining with the tips protruding downward. A heavy three-strand braid of dark brown hair runs across the top. There is a plant fibre cordage tie at each top corner.

Headdress588/1

Black hat with a geometric shape of five exterior sides with two interior sides, forming a flat horizontal top. Top flares downward and outward and then angles back downward and inward for a downward point at either side, with the interior sides angling back upward and inward. There is a brass bar with openwork along the top. Dark hair is shaped into an oval where the head is supposed to fit.

Ritual trumpet known as kangling (རྐང་གླིང་།) made of hollow human shin bone or thigh bone wrapped with a cord and covered with a wax-like substance. The bell is of hammered copper with a brass trim. Bands of brass 2/3 in length above bell and at mouthpiece.

Ritual trumpet known as kangling (རྐང་གླིང་།). One end is a large darkened thigh bone, dark brown with two holes bored through one end. The other end is capped with a metal cap with a small hole in its centre. Half of the thigh bone towards the metal-capped end is wound in gold-coloured metal wire; running from this wire towards the other end are four decorative bands of metal with raised designs that, excepting the central band, are each set with three red and blue stones or minerals.

Double-sided drum made of two human skulls known as thod-rnga (ཐོད་རྔ) and also known as damaru (ཌ་མ་རུ་), but the latter also refers to double-side drums made of different materials. The skulls are placed top to top with each opening covered with skin. A decorative metal band with raised patterning and red and green-coloured round stone-like objects mounted on it covers the joint in the centre. Attached to the metal band is a length of twined string with an egg-shaped, pitch-covered weight at the other end.

Skull Drum2664/3 a-b

Double-sided drum made of two human skulls known as thod-rnga (ཐོད་རྔ) and also known as damaru (ཌ་མ་རུ་), but the latter also refers to double-side drums made of different materials. The skulls are placed top to top with each opening covered with sheet or goat skin. Join is wrapped with blue cotton cloth and dark red wool, with cords of braided hide ending in knobs attached to each side. Hide strips partially covered in brown corduroy project from one side, ending in tassels in poor condition. Part b is a detached cord with metal-wrapped tassels.
