Arnold 1/30/2004 From "Descriptive Catalogue of Petroglyph Prints for the University of Washington, from The Dalles Dam Resevoir, 1956." by Mark Hedden, located in the Archaeology Archives: "Monster with body of two concentric rings & an oval in the center, all bisected by a vertical stem, which forms the neck as well as the center prong of a forked tail formation. Small heart-shaped head, with eyes, the only features, indicated by two dots. Headdress of two hornlike devices curving off at either side with a short central vertical. Two u-shaped appendages on the upper portion of the body may be flippers of a sort. Other figures include, a series of concentric rings with two or three irregular appendages, and what appears to be a smaller version of the main figure, having one ring for the boday with a bisecting stem, a similar three fold tail, and a smaller ring for the head with a central dot. There appears to be lineur extensions from the head but no clear pattern emerges. The boulder and the carving are weathered and considerably worn, and, as both 'monster' designs are shown upside down, it is possible that the rock has been tilted by some action, since the carving were made."

Arnold 1/30/2004 From "Descriptive Catalogue of Petroglyph Prints for the University of Washington, from The Dalles Dam Resevoir, 1956." by Mark Hedden, located in the Archaeology Archives: Large face, with an unusual triangular headpiece, two arms directly attached to the sides of the face, bent at the elbows, with hands spread (one, counted, has six fingers), hollow ovoid eyes, skull-like head outline, lenticular mouth, angular (possibly mean as triangle) nose, and a necklace or whiskers along lower portion of the face. In addition, the left hand appears to be holding a triangular device with rays. Other figures include: a sheep with horns curved back, & hooves spread; an arc with rays; an unclear design which shows two hands outstretched, a small circular head, & irregular body. (The motif of hands directly attached to the head of a figure appears often on masks among the Kwakiutl, & Tunghat masks from Yukon Valley, Alaska).

Heart-shaped head with 'ears' (?) and short center vertical. Eyes shown as dots. Tail forked, with rake pattern on inner edges. ('Ears' may represent tufts as are found on owls, or perhaps, whole figure might be better interpreted as bat.) Small lineur (sic) figure, below right, with circular head, straight body with tail or phallus, arms or forelegs curving up, legs spread."

Bisected ovoid with rays. Simple circle. Nine (at least) standing figures, with fingers & toes marked (usually to the number of three), inlcuding six phallic or tailed figures, and, three with head enclosed by an arc or with extensions suggesting vaginas below outstretched legs. (Since the carvings are executed on a horizontal surface the vertical axis varies according to each individual design. This introduces a problem of interpretation, e.g. vaginas or head encircled by arcs?)

Upper loop contains short vertical. Tail has two short crossbars near lower extremity. (Whole figure shows recent discoloration but appears more likely that design has been 'refreshed' rather than newly carved.) Other designs include: an arc with rays, cricle 'eyes' with vertical attachments (face?), forearm & hand pattern (rake), vertical zigzag, & an unusual standing figure with circular head, apparently holding a bisected circle (drum?) with one outstretched arm, the other arm akimbo.

Based on central stem with multiple zigzag appendages, centered circular head with rays, and three pronged 'tail'. Arc with three rays & center vertical adjacent right. Long, secondary zigzag above arc and head of 'monster'.
