Sample Textile1766/14

An off-white textile adhered to a paper background. The textile shows a flower motif outlined in brown. There are three snail-like patterns in centre of a bouquet. In the bouquet, one snail-like pattern is orange, four leaves are green and many flowers are white with a tiny bit of colour. The bow and scattered leaves surrounding the flowers are outlined in brown. Several lines come together in circles under the bouquet and are coloured red, green, orange, brown and purple. There is a red seal stamp beside a purple 'No. 3' stamp in the lower right corner of the paper.

The front caption below on each of the packages reads 'INDUSTRI JAMU / LEO / SEMARANG' with a circular logo on the right side that has a left facing lion sitting on '1948 LEO / DAFT No. 36727.' One package (part b) has the following: 'No. 19, jamu SUPER BATUK'; a woman in the blue background on the left side wearing a yellow shirt and green pants as she faces to the left side while holding a handkerchief to her mouth with her right hand; and a man in the foreground on the right side wearing an orange shirt as he faces to the left side while holding a handkerchief to his mouth with his left hand. Si-Si-Ootle Serpent1666/8 a-k

Deep, rectangular sisiutl feast dish (part a)with two sisiutl heads protruding from either side (parts h and i))--long red tongues (parts f and k) protrude from these two heads. The protruding heads and the two sisiutl faces painted on opposite sides of the dish all have curved red and black fin-like ears--two apiece for the faces on the dish (parts b-e) and one each for the protruding heads(parts g and j). Dish is painted using red, black, green and white paint.

One side is covered with printing identifying the weight, type, and brand of rice (25 lbs, extra fancy long grain, and "Empire Rice," respectively). Set of three brushes: a-b) two brushes with wide off-white bristles (the bristles of part a are stained light pink), a black wood ferrule with incised lines that tapers towards the cylindrical bamboo handle that has a piece of paper with a printed image of a bird and Chinese characters and a length of twined and knotted fibre threaded through a hole in the handle near the end; c) a brush with short black bristles, a cylindrical bamboo handle with a black end and a short loop of woven black fibre attached to the end. Each brush has incised characters on the handle shaft near the end: the lettering on parts a and b are in red, and on part c it is in black.
