The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

AMEC Analysis: Artifact Type: Horse Trapping Comments: This artifact consists of a thin iron bar backed with wood. A portion of the metal has been snapped off so that one side has a metal loop and the other is only partial. The complete end extends 3 3/4 inches beyond the loop forming a handle. Two pieces of one object, comprised of wood and iron, of unknown function (AMEC had initially identified as Horse Trapping as "Artifact Type." Metal comprises the back and base of the object, as well as a handle and bisecting fragment. The wooden portion of the object is seated within the metal and pinned by the fragments to it. Wood has weakened severely and is fragmenting, especially around metal joints. Metal is corroded and possibly bent (handle). L. Penttila 3/1/2010
