Double slipper lantern slide. A rectangular wooden frame holds three glass plates side by side: the centre is stationary, the other two moveable. The stationary plate shows a vibrantly coloured, printed image of a clown in three poses, dressed in red, blue and yellow. The background is black. Parts b and c are panes of glass with blotches of black paint carefully placed to intermittently hide elements on the stationary slide as they move past it, allowing the clown to do a cartwheel. The frame is built to accommodate the moving slides, having large grooves in each side for the plates to slide, and semi-circular finger holes which enable the user to grasp the movable slides. Stamped in wood: "W.C. Hughes / Optician...London"

Lantern slide inscribed "Water Mill". Rectangular wooden slide holds a round glass plate at centre, surrounded on one side by a brass ring. A deep grove has been cut horizontally into the wood on the back of the slide, with a small metal clamp opposite. The plate shows a coloured image printed on glass of river with small rapids. A man stands on the bank fishing. Behind him and to either side of the river are bushes, and tall buildings with white or yellow walls and red roofs. A dark sky with clouds and a full moon can be seen at top centre. Stamped in wood: "W.E. & F. Newton / Opticians & Globe Makers to the Queen...London"

Single lever, moveable lantern slide. A rectangular wooden frame holds two round glass plates, one on top of the other, at centre. On the frame’s back right, a large triangular groove is carved into the wood to allow for the up and down movement of a brass handle attached to the rear plate by a brass ring. The front plate shows a coloured, printed image of a winter scene, a woman looking out the front door of her house, bare trees to the right behind a fence. A man in ragged clothes walks by with his small dog. The back plate has a printed image of the man’s arm, hat in hand. When the plate is moved by the lever, it appears that the man is tipping his hat. Stamped into wood is "W.C. Hughes / Optician / 151 Hoxton St / London".

Container made of a gourd, rounded and oblong with a relatively wide, round foot. The gourd is covered with basketry, which is itself covered in a thick dark substance. The wooden lid (part b) is carved into 4 creatures, the top being a man with a long head and face, topped by a cylindrical hat. He sits on a horse with a stylized human face. The horse balances on a smaller two legged creature, also with a human-like face, who in turn balances on an even smaller creature with a human-like face, smiling. Beneath the four is the small, round lid and stopper that fits into the mouth of the container. The lid is partly covered by a shiny substance.

Small cylindrical container (for tobacco?). The body is tall and narrow, delicately and densely carved in encircling patterns of triangles, swirls, leaves, and geometric and liner designs, in a dark brown colour. Both bottom and top of cylinder are painted a dark reddish brown, with a lacquered shine. The inside is hollow with thin walls. The lid has a round bottom that fits snuggly inside the cylinder, with a top that protrudes beyond the rim and a small round handle at centre top. Small triangles are carved into the outer edge of the lid.

Neck ornament made of 18-19 strings of cylindrical beads creating a wide, circular necklace that fits close to the neck. The beads are threaded on fibre strands, held together by seven strips of hide interspersed at regular intervals, with thin hide ties at the ends. The beads are decorated with incised lines, and possibly lacquered?

Small lacquer tea bowl with light orange, green and brown designs on an orange-red background. Interior of bowl is orange-red. Around the central design is a border composed of a series of alternating orange-red and brown stripes sandwiching a band of green triangles on a brown background. The border encompasses the top and the bottom of the central design. The background of the central design is orange-red cross-hatching over brown. Interspersed on the background are abstract green and light orange floras. There are nine elephants circling the bowl. Some of the elephants are adorned with a light orange design while others are brown. The elephants are all walking in the same direction but their trunk positions differ. Also, some elephants look behind them as they walk. At the bottom of the bowl, there is a small foot with a brown interior.

Firstly, there is a band of alternating orange and black stripes, then a pattern of black triangles on an orange background, followed by another series of stripes. The background central design consists of a tiny orange-red grid set on black. On top of this, there is a large leaf or paisley motif in light orange and black. There are also three exuberantly dancing figures. Each figure wears pants that bunch at the ankle, a sash with a fringe at the end tied around their waist, and a long sleeved shirt and head scarf. The pattern of each of these items of clothing differs from one figure to the next. The bottom of the bowl is solid orange-red.

Central design on circumference of bowl is bordered by series of lines. First band is alternating yellow and orange-red stripes sandwiched between blue lines. Second band is alternating green and orange-red stripes sandwiched between blue lines. Central design is set on an orange-red background with tiny yellow dots. On top of this background there are two bands of alternating green rabbits in profile and blue flowers within blue circles. On bottom of bowl, there is small circle forming base. The interior of this base is painted black. The remainder of the bottom of the bowl is painted solid orange-red.

Around the top and bottom of the central design there is a border consisting of a series of bands. Firstly, there is a band of alternating light orange and black stripes. Then there is a band of black triangles on a light orange background; following this band, is another band of stripes. The background of the central design has light orange fish scales on a black background. There are various figures in the foreground. One figure is wearing pants which cinch at the ankle, a sash and bracelets. This figure has one knee bent on the ground and one knee up. Their arms are bent at the elbow with hands facing up. The person faces a small peacock. There is also a large snake with a fat belly. Following the snake, there is a large four-legged animal with swirls on its torso and a long tail. Finally, there is a hybrid figure with a human-like torso and bird-like legs and tail. In one of its outstretched arms, the hybrid figure holds a cloth. The bottom of the bowl is solid orange-red.
