Qur'an3039/1 a-b

Book of the Qur’an, inscribed in naskh script inside the cover. The first few pages are highly coloured and decorative. Most other pages of script are bordered by a simple band of gold and blue, with most of the script in black and red ink. Chapter headers are painted with brightly coloured decorative bands. The cover has a flowered pattern painted(?) onto the outside; a flower patterned paper adhered to the inside covers. Pages are loosely bound with string, currently only attached in one place to the cover. (Part b is a soft fabric cover that is sewn in the shape of an envelope; in storage.)

Binocular Glasses3000/5

Pair of metal binoculars. Eye piece assembly is made of brass, with a black patina. Below it at centre sits a rigged focussing knob. The barrels are covered in a hard black leather and flare slightly toward the objective lenses, which are lined with moveable tin tubes that have a pattern of incised, encircling lines.

Puppet2956/294 a-b

String puppet (marioneta) representing the character Adamastor, mythological character, embodiment of storms. The core of the puppet is a mass of dark brown cragged wood, cork, large strands of frayed rope and torn white plastic, as well as several small white shells. The monster's eyes are barnacle shells. Grey paint has been added to all elements in a few areas. Falling from this amalgamation is a long torn piece of black cotton fabric, also rubbed with grey paint in areas. A leather and rusted metal belt buckle is tied into one corner. Part b is a wooden control stick, carved at centre, with the handle painted to look bone-like. The control stick fits into the central piece of cork in the head.

Wooden figure representing S. Antônio de Pádua with a long staff (part b). Figure stands on a large base with incised designs. On his left hand is a child on a book. The figure holds a staff with a bird on top, and a white cross, in his right hand. There is a fringe decoration on the cape’s bottom edge and a leather halo above his head.

Wooden figure representing St. Anthony, holding a book with his right hand and a child with a leather halo with his left hand. The figure wears a headdress with flower above his head, a small cross with glitter design on front, and is standing on a large double base. Two oval shells and a leather fringe decorate the base front. “SANTO ANTONIO” is painted on front. (Pieces of paper with red writing taped to back and base.)

Crucifixion Figure2956/150

Wooden crucifix. Christ is shown with a green crown, a cloth around his hips with a glittery design and a leather halo above his head. The base has a glass mosaic design and there is a wide wooden leg at the back to hold the figure upright. “I.N.R.I” is carved on a plaque above. A metal bottle opener was added to the top as a hook.
