A pair of shoes made of shiny white fabric with large padded bulbous protrusions over the toes and slightly elevated soles. The shoes are decorated with lines of purple and gold sequins ending in curlicues at the front.

Cantonese Opera Boots2701/1 a-b

A pair of boots high enough to cover the wearer’s calf, with very thick white soles curved upwards at the front. They are solidly covered with sequins that have been sewn onto the surface cloth. The foot is demarcated from the calf with red piping, and there are vertical lines of piping at the front at back. The sequins are patterned in radiating stripes on the foot portion of the boots, while above the piping there is a dragon curling towards the bottom of the boot and then facing upwards towards a red disc. The sequins are multi-coloured against a background of rich blue-green.

Large round-body, part (a), is light coloured wood with two small protruding handles pierced, with leather handle strap going through them and attaching to wider leather strap. Extra piece of leather connected to side of leather strap. Mouth of container is wrapped and woven with grasses. Lid, part (b) is bulbous with round and smaller flat top, does not fit well on container. Inside container is charred black.

Backstrap LoomE164 a-h

A loom (parts a-g) an unfinished woven wool textile consisting of blue, green, yellow, orange, pink, red and white central stylized geometric designs surrounded by a repeating, multi-coloured square border all on a navy ground. The textile is attached at the top and bottom to a large, cylindrical shaped wooden stick (part a). Intertwined in the multi-coloured warp are two cylindrical shaped heddles, one covered in red and white twine (part g), the other in navy twine; a flat, rectangular batten with triangular, pointed ends (part d); one cylindrical shaped bar with indentations on the ends (part e) and two long cylindrical shaped sticks of various size (parts f and h). Separate to the loom is a hollow cylindrical shaped shed roll (part c) and the rectangular shaped brown, leather back strap (part b) that has large loops of twisted twine ties on either end.

Brown leather sandals (parts a-b) with a wide strap across the toes, back and two on the front. The top has a floral decoration with red and green velvet underlay. There are two buckle fastenings on the side. Slight tooling around the edges of the sole. The soles are nailed. Pressed into the sole is a circular stamp reading ‘Mexico’.

One side of the case contains a mirror on the inside, and both sides are joined with a strip of red leather attached at the top centre of each. A loop is created at the centre of the leather strip by a band of red leather. The outside of the case is painted red with a roughly symmetrical geometric design in carbon ink and the edges of the design are emphasized with indented lines.

Wooden headdress consisting of a rectangular piece of wood with a semi-oval cut out of the centre bottom; painted in blue, yellow, green, black and red. The front has a flower in the centre and two feathers on each side. The back has clouds and lightning with two feathers on either side. The front has a circular bundle of fibre attached. There is a thick leather strip that attaches at the back and hangs down past the edge of the wood. A second piece of leather runs horizontally across the opening.

Large, carved, wooden, raven hamatsa mask with a long beak, an ovoid shaped projection on the ridge and thin, ovoid shaped cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather nailed to either side. The beak is painted black with a red mouth and nose. From the edge of the mouth to the back of the nose are a series of red u-forms ending in a split u. At the back of the mouth are two white u-forms. The bridge has white and red detailing. The eyes are white, outlined in black and red, on a white ovoid shaped background; brow is black. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of twine used to open and close the beak. The top has short pieces of cedar creating a fringe, while the back has longer strips that hang over the wearer. The bottom is black with a white U-form. The mask is painted black, red, and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.
