SandalsSa412 a-b

Pair of boy’s leather sandals (part a-b). The sandals have full backs and a red tongue piece attached by leather thongs to the sides. The toe strap is knotted on the underside and threaded back through the tongue piece. The sandals are have black rubber tire soles and are held together with metal nails.

Wooden, carved, raven mask with a long beak and triangular shaped cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather on either side, nailed to the lower mouth. The beak and nostrils are painted black with red edging. The eyes are white, outlined in black on a black, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. The inside of the mask is hollow. The mask is painted black, red and white.

Comb2542/9

Wooden comb with 14 teeth, widening toward the end. Teeth are held together with three separate woven sections of grass. Bottom is rectangular and has a rectangular hole in the middle. The other two sections are bands of interwoven grass, the middle one wider than the other. Between the two bands there is a red-brown piece of leather that is wrapped around the 5th and 10th teeth and also attached to the grass weaves, with five holes at the top and two at the bottom.

Strop Tool1779/26

Double-sided leather strop. Piece of wood with handle shaped at one end. There is a hole through each end. Grooves along two sides of the object. Two leather pieces, the strops, are glued to sides. Leather is mainly stained green (through use) from a honing compound.

Earrings1759/16 a-b

Woven basketry ear pendants with a metal ear hook attached at top. Bottom of earrings (1.2 cm) made of woven vertical grass strips of alternate colours of brown and light brown. Above grasses are pieces of light brown leather. At top of leather is a small loop of black and white beads. The beads are attached to a small piece of leather which is pierced by the metal hooks.

Berry Basket1792/1

Small, rectangular coiled basket with handles. Basket has rounded corners. Fibre handles are tied to three leather loops, two on one side and one on the other, which are threaded through basket sides and tied inside. Three bands of geometric design in red-brown, black and light brown encircle the basket body.

Double-edge curved blade set in groove in long, plain wooden handle. Handle is wrapped with brown leather cord at top third. In places cord is twisted. Lower half of visible handle is carved to show new wood. Handle is rounded on front and lower back.

A belt-like strip of beadwork on a stiff leather and fabric backing. Beaded belt with ends bound in leather. One end has a tied loop, the other end has two ties. Backing is light brown heavy cotton. Design is geometric on green background. Diamond designs in blue, orange and red alternate with simple blue and grey cross.
