Rod Puppet3420/95 a-d

Bird puppet with separate body (part a), head (part b) and wings (parts c-d). The body is carved from wood, with burgundy fabric covering the tail joint and extending down in a tube from below. There is a round slot at the top of the neck, which the head's manipulation stick is inserted into, and two small slots on the back to insert the wings. The bird has a large black beak with a red ridge down the top, white face with large circular orange eye, and large round crest extending out from the back of the head in red with black and yellow. The head is mounted on a long, wood manipulation stick that has a tube of burgundy fabric covering it. There is a plastic cord running down the centre that controls the beak.

Mask3420/23 a-c

Wood rectangular face mask (part a) with tall ladder-like superstructure with two breaks (parts b-c). The face mask has two sunken rectangular areas on either side of the nose, and two small cutout square eye holes. Inside, there is a wooden bite bar inserted through holes on sides. Ears extend along each side of the face, with small points extending up. Red plant fibre hair is attached to the back of the mask. Extending from the top of the head, between the ears, is a tall superstructure of panels alternating between various hourglass shapes, and lines, tapering in at the end with a sphere at the tip. The superstructure has split, almost in half, through the sixth panel (part b), and again through the eleventh panel (part c) near the top.

Picture Frame3421/7

Carved and painted picture frame holding a coloured photo of the Goose Bay Cannery, behind glass. Each side of the frame has a pole with (top to bottom): seated eagle with wings folded in, downward-facing whale, and an Indigenous man depicted with long braids. Along the top is an eagle with its wings spread, and along the bottom is a sisiutl (double-headed serpent) with a central face of a supernatural being.

The man wears a Plains-style bonnet and is seated with arms holding the animal figure. The animal figure is upside-down. The black bear is in an upright seated position, and holds a face in its paws.

Painted model pole carved with (top to bottom) eagle, man, bear, whale; on a rectangular wooden base. The eagle has separately carved and attached wings (part b) spread out to its side. The man wears a Plains-style bonnet and is seated with arms held together in front of his body. The black bear is in an upright seated position. It has it's teeth bared, and tongue out. In its paws it holds the head of a canine-type creature. The grey whale faces downwards with its tail flipped up and curled under the bear. All three fins have been carved separately and attached.

Buffalo Headdress3420/47

Wooden bovine headdress (or helmet mask). Carved from wood and covered with cloth and glass beads. The entire mask is decorated with bright blue beads, with eyes of red and white beads, nostrils and lips in red. The muzzle tapers somewhat between the head and nose, with the mouth open, exposing large block teeth and a tongue. There are small rounded ears, and two long horns that extend toward the back. There are short lengths of cord knotted at the back.

Rectangular metal amulet with concave or "pinched" sides. The amulet contains layers of rectangles, diamonds, and triangles in silver with gold a gold diamond at centre. A raised silver sphere is set at centre. The front is etched with geometric designs and script. Strung on a long black fibre cord, which attaches at both upper corners of the amulet, with the ends hanging as tassels hang on either side of the amulet. Each tassel is wrapped with a brown and a green band. On the back, marked with five small vertical lines, one above two rows of two, with a horizontal line between the two rows of two, and an etched square with diagonal lines within.
