Carpet Beater3275/24

Beater used to push down weft during construction of a carpet. Implement is a large metal comb, tines long and rectangular, shorn off at an angle at tip. Metal slabs are used to separate tines at back of comb, with one extending upward to fit inside the handle which sits on top of comb at a steep angle. Handle is made of two pieces of wood, curving back to fit the hand. Pommel is rounded.

Painted bark cloth. Large square of pounded bark cloth, divided by painted lines into four square sections. Each section has two animals, four shown horizontally, four vertically (six are fish or porpoises, two are waterfowl). The painted designs are faded. The piece has hanging holes in all four corners, two of which still have round brass rivets.

Gambling Game Pieces3259/36 a-c

Three cylindrical bone game pieces. Part a has circular pieces of brass(?) capping each end. Engraved around the cylinder ends are circles with dots inside. Part b is hollow, and engraved with a repeating pattern of four holes in a diamond-like design, at each end, and five holes around the horizontal central groove. Part c is hollow, and engraved with a repeating pattern of circles with dots inside, arranged in a zigzag around each end; at the centre is a horizontal groove.

Cotton turban. Garment is thin and very long, made of light, fine fabric that is dyed in diagonal lines of bright pink-purple interspersed with panels of mottled brown, orange and blue lines. Kurent stick, or club. Made of a thick branch of wood, slightly curved along its length, blunt at each end. A leather thong passes through a hole at grip end, and a hedgehog pelt with quills and a small amount of fur is attached to head. A meal hook is screwed into head at tip.
