Blue skirt with pleats and embroidery. Across the top is a wide cotton waistband with three rows of frog closures. On the edges of the hem and pleats are gold borders containing the eight Buddhist objects. On the front and back are dragon, phoenix, bat, wave, cloud, sun and mountain motifs in gold, green and red. The inside lining is light blue damask containing the eight Buddhist objects.
The upper flap is embroidered with narcissus (flower of the new year), peony (flower of spring), crane (symbol of longevity), Shou Shin (god of longevity), (god of happiness), (god of prosperity), and the deer also (symbol of longevity). The lower flap is embroidered with the peony, the phoenix (symbol of peace and serenity) and the unicorn chi lin. Both are honored creatures, the other two are the tiger and dragon. Each flap is edged with embroidered ribbon. All on purple damask ground, net and tassel fringe with bronze discs. Reverse is lined with pink cotton.
Light orange damask skirt panel (part a) with tiny pleats and embroidery. Across the top is a wide cotton waistband with three frog fasteners. A purple tie is attached to a loop on the waistband. The orange damask is woven containing large peony motifs. On the edges of the skirt are scalloped borders with a floral motif in red, yellow and green on a ground with dark blue trim. On the front and back are xiezhi?, phoenix, peony and mountain motifs in pink, red, gold, green and blue. The inside is unlined.
Red damask skirt with pleats and embroidery. Across the top is a wide cotton waistband with with three rows of frog closures. The red damask is woven containing bat, Buddhist and Taoism motifs. On the edges of the skirt are black borders with lotus and peony motifs and the eight Buddhist objects in blue, white and gold. On the front and back are polychrome panels of figures in a garden in pink, red, gold, yellow, blue and green. The inside is unlined.
