Case706/29

Case with an oval body covered in off-white silk with a grey dragon motif on one face and blue silk with an off-white and grey fish motif on the opposite face. The edge of the case is covered in a blue, yellow and white braided ribbon. The case opens at the top where there is a purple cord attached with a clay bead strung over the cord. Two purple tassels are attached to the bottom of the case with a clay bead near the top of the cord that leads to the tassels.

Hair Bag811/18

Long, flat, tapered, embroidered bag made of black cotton textile, embellished on one side with clusters of flowers, leaves and stems. The wide end of the bag is open and there is a 37 cm narrow loop of the same black cotton textile attached at either end of the opening. The closed, narrow end of the bag is embellished with bands of embroidery, sequins, glass beads and cotton fringe.

Embroidered and beaded wallet-style purse, long and narrow in shape, with a triangular flap at one end. The outside is embellished with panels of predominantly red embroidery representing flowers, leaves and vines, worked on a green fibre broadcloth background and edged with couched silver metallic threads. The wallet is edged with multi-coloured glass beads. The inside of the wallet is divided into two compartments, each closed with a flap, plus one long inner compartment that extends the full length of the purse. The embroidery on the inside is the same style as on the outside. The flaps are edged with multi-coloured embroidery. The compartments are lined with machine-printed textiles.

Bag1201/25

Small, flat, rectangular, embroidered bag, with beaded edges. Made by folding an embroidered piece in half and seaming two edges, leaving the fourth edge open. Three edges are trimmed with small multicoloured glass beads, while the opening is trimmed with small blue beads. The embroidery is worked in horizontal bands, separated by rows of silver braid and rickrack. The sides of the bag are virtually identical. The embroidery is backed with faded pink cotton textile.

Long rectangular, green sari with a sheer crepe weave, machine stitched on both ends with silver and green ribbon edging. Throughout the textile are silver coloured metal studs spaced closed together at one end then widely spaced over the rest of the length. One end and part of the side does not have the silver edging.

Ceremonial Panel1559/2

Rectangular embroidered and appliquéd textile panel, decorated with mirrors and edged with closely-spaced cowrie shells on three sides; the top edge is has a fibre loop attachment at the left corner. The design in the centre of the panel consists of two square motifs, embellished with rows of mirrors on a red and dark yellow background. A border design of embroidered and appliquéd bands and mirrors surrounds the central motifs. There are three 'tassels' made of clusters of bell-shaped pompoms of fine cotton thread and suspended from twisted fibre cords, evenly spaced on the 'bottom' edge; the tassels are trimmed with cowrie shells and metal beads.

Ornament composed of a decorative pink knot with a loop tied through the top, stuffed fabric that flares outwards at the sides, is embroidered with a blue design and has two pink tassels hanging from either side, a second decorative pink knot, and stuffed fabric embroidered with pink fruit and green leaves from which hang four strands of red and gold beads, each ending in a brown tassel.

Octagonal mirror with blue fabric adhered to it creating a border. The underside is lined with red fabric and decorated with glass beads. The central design is of green and white flowers alternating with blue circles and orange ovals. Along the edge are six butterflies. Hanging behind the mirror are two silk, thread tassels bound at the top with silver, gold and red metallic thread. Attaching all three pieces together is a yellow piece of twine that has a decorative knot in it. One tassel is green, the other fuchsia.

Small, square, multi-coloured, embroidered bag, made by bringing three corners of a square embroidered textile together, leaving the fourth corner free as a flap, resulting in a flat, square envelope. The main design is a ‘hooked sun symbol,’ surrounded by a few mirrors and bands of embroidered geometric motifs and edged with couched silver threads. The embroidery is worked with multi-coloured threads in chain stitch on purple cotton broadcloth. The stitchery is backed with red cotton broadcloth.
