Flat fan made of finely-split bamboo flaring out from its attachment point to a long wooden handle painted black. Bamboo strips are bent downwards near the perimeter of fan, those on each side bending away from centre strip. Perimeter of fan is circular except for the lower edge where the handle is attached, which is straight and at right angles to handle. Fan is covered with pieces of floral-patterned silk, cut to form a design of three swirls converging at the centre, coloured purple, orange, and pale green on one side, and grey, very pale green, and pale orange on the other. It has a narrow edging of grey paper. The fan is inserted into a split in the handle, which is flat and lozenge-shaped where it covers the fan, which is attached with two rivets.
A robe (part a) of dark blue silk gauze fully lined with the same material in light blue. Robe opens at the right front side with the left front panel overlapping the right-hand panel secured at the top with a single toggle, below which, there are wide ties, two of each colour, attached to each panel. The neck is round with a white insert that is higher at the back. The robe is formed of slightly flared panels and has an inverted pleat at each side, above which, there is a belt loop on the right side and a tie to hold the belt on the left. The wide sleeves are rounded at the front and the back bottom edges and have interfacings at the openings to reinforce them. At the upper centre front and back of the robe, there are sewn rectangular embroidered cloth badges, each of which has a white crane in the centre with stylized red, pink, purple, green cloud forms above, and rock forms below on a black background. The back of the badge is lined with paper pasted in place.
Skirt made of one and one-half panels of shiny red brocade with a background pattern of full and half roundels with a stylized Chinese character surrounded by cloud-like patterns, with smaller curvilinear patterns between. The skirt is open at the back, and is lined with red nylon transparent fabric. The panels are pleated and inserted into a band of similar fabric but with a floral pattern. The upper edge of the band is scalloped, with the points of the scallops meeting the ends of two shoulder straps of the nylon lining. On both sides of the back opening are embroidered simple yellow chrysanthemums with green stems and leaves, and with a border at the side and bottom of green leaves On the centre front near the bottom are embroidered two Chinese characters in blue, one above the other. On each side of the characters is embroidered a phoenix facing the centre, with five long tail feathers in green, white, blue, yellow, and turquoise, with metallic thread throughout.
Upper body garment made of bright yellow and red shiny fabric lined with red nylon transparent fabric. The long sleeves are deeply inset with seams curving outwards towards the underarms, and are made of brocade woven in stripes in six different colours parallel to the body of the garment. Embellished with flowers, bats, butterflies, and stylized Chinese characters woven in red. The seam of the sleeves, under the arms, has a pronounced convex curve narrowing to the wrist. The body of the garment curves downwards to the centre front and back. It opens at the front. The front panels overlap to the right when closed and fasten with long ribbon ties made of the same fabric as that at the wrist. The left panel and the centre back seam are edged with red piping. The lower point of the left panel has an appliquéd motif in red approximately the shape of a heart with pink flowers and green stems embroidered above. A phoenix facing the centre of the garment is embroidered on each side with multicoloured thread. Red panels are inserted under each arm. The garment has a deep V neck outlined with an appliquéd red facing outlined in black piping, as are the seams attaching the sleeves. There is also a narrow facing or collar of white fabric.
An onament made of an elaborately knotted pink cord with a bell and two tassels attached. Above the bell, there is a loop, below which, there is a lozenge-shaped flat knotted shape. Below the bell, there is a smaller looped pattern. The bell is spherical with a slit in the bottom half. The bell is silver-coloured with inlaid discs of blue, purple, blue-green, and yellow enamel each with a Chinese character, and with lines of dots of the same colours in between. The two tassels are attached below the second knotted design. They have multicoloured strands and are wrapped at the top with gold thread that has a pattern picked out of the tassels’ strands on the surface of each wrapped area.
A small flat bag made of dark blue silk damask with an overall pattern of lozenges and small circles. At the top, the blue silk is folded inside where it is sewn with an invisible seam to the white cotton lining. Main body of the bag is shaped like a vertical rectangle with triangular projections on both sides created by folding and holding the folds in place with a circular pink cylindrical cord. The cord ends at the front with elaborate knots, culminating in five loops. Fastened to the three centre loops, there are stuffed triangles, one each of pink, yellow, and light green silk. Attached to the lower edge of each triangle, there are three, four, and five tabs, respectively, of silk fabric in various colours. Each triangle is embroidered with floral motifs and each has pompoms on the side points. The tabs fastening the top point of the yellow and pink triangles to the cord are wrapped in strips of silver and gold paper, respectively.
A small flat bag made of light blue-green and burgundy silk damask embroidered on both sides. At the top, the light blue-green fabric is joined to a red silk lining with an invisible seam held flat by groups of very fine stitches. Main body of the bag is shaped like a vertical rectangle with triangular projections on both sides created by folding and holding the folds in place with a pink cylindrical cord. The lower edge and the triangular projections at the sides of the bag are made of the burgundy silk which has been appliquéd onto the other fabric. Many motifs are embroidered onto the bag, all of which are heavily outlined in bright gold couching, sometimes with double threads. Motifs include stylized waves and rocks on the burgundy part with a swastika on each side at the bottom centre. On the pale blue-green part, there is a stylized Chinese ? character on each side at the top, below which, there is a fungus-like shape on the back. On the front, there is a stylized Chinese ? character, below which, there are two fungus-like shapes. Below this, there are two Chinese ? characters and a fungus-like design coming out of a rainbow-patterned circular form. The pink cord is worked into an elaborate knot ending in four loops and two knotted ends at the front and is knotted forming double loops on the back.
A small round bag made of red silk damask lined with white cotton fabric. Top of the bag is closed with pleating threaded onto two red cords joined at the ends with elaborate red, and gold knots and four tassels, two at each end. Two tassels are light green and pink while the other two are dark blue and yellow. All tassels are wrapped with gold thread at the top. Each tassel thread ends in a tiny circle. The upper edge of the bag is folder under to join the white cotton lining with an invisible seam. There are embroidered designs, some with gold couching, on both surfaces of the bag. On one side, there are four Korean? characters in different colours, below which, there are floral images. Below them, at the centre, there are two birds facing each other on a rainbow pattern. The other side of the bag is embroidered with pink and yellow flowers on green stems.
Light green damask furisode (振袖) with an abstract floral pattern. The neck and centre opening are edged with a wide patterned band. The sleeves have long hanging panels and an opening under the arms. The damask is woven containing a linear motif. The pattern has flower, leaf and cloud motifs in orange, purple, white, red, gold, blue and green on light green ground. The neck band is lined with cream striped silk and two strings have been stitched to create loops on the inner back.
One of a pair of embroidered panels on a horizontal rectangle of dark pink silk with a backing of yellow paper that is folded towards the front and pasted in place to form a frame. Each panel is finely embroidered with an arch shape open at the top made up of flowers, leaves, and four multi-coloured butterflies, one of which is near the bottom while the other is near the top of the side of the arch shape. One butterfly is in profile and the other with wings spread. The flowers are predominantly in shades of blue and green. Some details are couched in gold thread. Within the arch are four wide v-shapes of embroidered flowers and leaves opening toward the centre of the panel.
