Wood glue was added to create areas of shininess on the ink, as well as on the paper. A kanji character, 背 (se; back) is written so that it also takes on the image of a spinal column. The character mainly covers the right side of the page. Some ink is also on the back of the page near top and bottom edges.

Coil of two intertwined dyed silk prayer cords each made up of five separate colours of silk cord. Cord is tightly twisted together in a pattern of 1 white, 1 light green, 1 pink, 1 yellow, 1 blue (repeated). The cord is tied in a knot, with the ends of the cords bound by thin red thread.
