Charm3311/6

Small marupai charm carved from a dwarf coconut. The nutshell is carved to have a snout with an open mouth on the narrow end. Geometric designs with lines and repeating triangles are etched into the shell, following the shape of the mouth and giving it circular eyes. The carved designs are filled with white clay(?). A short length of twisted cord extends from a hole through the rounded end, and has been tied leaving a small loop.

Small coconut container in a woven carrier. The coconut is hollowed-out, and has a hole at the top. The coconut is nestled between two woven rings, and then held in place by horizontal and vertical weaving. A handle is attached to the top of the carrier. A small piece of tape is adhered to the side of the coconut with the collector's number on it.

Body Mask3167/1

Tumbuan body mask. Tall, conical, mask intended to fit over a dancer’s body is woven of rattan and wood, plastered with mud. Three faces are situated at front, the top being the largest and most prominent. It is oblong, with a pointed head, protruding ears, heavy brow, round shell eyes, and a large protruding flap for a nose. Around the jaw is attached a beard made of a thick layer of short grass. The two faces below are round, with holes for eyes. Ears, noses, beards and brows are similar to the oblong face’s. White feathers are attached to the nose of the bottom. Shells hang from the ears of the top and middle faces. Hand holes are cut into the object near bottom on sides, the left of which is covered with a fringe of long grass. Back is undecorated.

Large brown armoured vest. Vest has two plaited straps that go over shoulders and a piece in front that can be tied closed. Front of vest is adorned with six nutshells tied on with leather cord. Back of vest is completely covered in bone plaits. Top of front flap is adorned with feathers and sewn with green thread to hold on remaining feathers.

Headdress2777/1

Colourful headdress with a turtle on mulberry fibre, wrapped around the front of a corrugated cardboard and plastic head ring covered with white fabric and decorative elements. A long blonde hair wig and pink feathers are stitched on to a frame at the back. Around and above the nose of the turtle are bands of green and red metal beads and brown shells, from the top of which project five black fabric-covered wood sticks with white shells and ivory coloured polished coconut shell rings adhered to their lengths.
