The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Rain cover or galmo composed of oiled paper folded into a v-shape with accordion folds on either side. The closed pointed end is wrapped with a small piece of oiled paper, and tied with fibre. A length of twisted cord runs from the tip, through the centre of the folded paper, and out the open end. It is tied together to form a loop, with several smaller loops within. The paper opens like an umbrella, and is cone-shaped when open.
Container with lid (part b), and darts/tools inside (parts c-j). Container is a hollow cylinder of wood with one closed end. Plaited plant fibre is looped around the container and tied, making a small carrying strap. The sides have been shaved lengthwise, and zigzag designs have been burned in. The lid is made from animal skin, with the hair on the interior. The tools are all made of wood. The largest tool (c) tapers in to a point at either end, and is quite flat. Smaller tools (d-j) are all composed of wood, and have a dark brown shiny substance on their pointed ends.
Carved seal bowl. Oval shaped opening, seal head projects from one end, rear flippers from other end. Raised line carved around inside of the bowl’s cavity. Carved in low relief on the outside are stylized representations of flippers and joints. A solid carved line defines the seal’s eyelids. Varnish or stain over outer and inner surface, except on base.
Basket sampler showing four sections of different types of basket weaving. Openwork basket is tall and rectangular, with a rounded base and walls that flare slightly toward rim. Large loops are attached at the upper layer, through which are passed two tumpline ropes that serve as a handle. A skinned ermine is sewn to the handle (with its nose and whiskers still present). Cedar oil was applied to the basketry after completion.
