Salmon Drum3113/5

Painted drum made of stiffened skin stretched over a round frame of wooden slats, attached together with adhesive. Skin wraps around frame edges to the back, where thin strips of sinew are attached through holes to draw the material tight. These are lashed together with leather thongs at centre, making a handle. The face of the drum is painted red and black, with four salmon heads emerging from the sides, surrounding a series of concentric cirlces at mid-point with interspersed crescents and traingles .

Bentwood Trailbox3113/4 a-b

Bentwood box made of yellow cedar, with separate lid (part b). Box is deeply carved with images of birds on two sides, decorated with inlaid circles and ovals of abalone shell for eyes and feather decoration. Into one side of the box is carved a wolf, painted black, with 8 shell operculua creating an even row of teeth in the open mouth. Abalone shell is used for the eye and other decoraton. A flower with foliage is carved beside the wolf. The fourth side is carved into repeating triangular and oval motifs, with black and rust paint accents. The lid (part b) is raised on one side, with 18 shell opercula in 6 rows of 3 shells decorating the high edge. Edges are painted black, while the top is coloured rust. Lid has an inset lip at bottom.

Thunderbird Rattle3113/3 a-b

Carved wooden rattle with stand (part b). Rattle has a round head, relatively flat, with strips of cedar looped around the outer edge. The front is decorated in a blue painted thunderbird motif with white accents, while the back is painted with a black thunderbird. The handle of the rattle is tightly wrapped with a braided cedar rope. The stand (part b) is cone shaped, with a hole at centre top into which the rattle's handle fits in order to hold it upright. The stand is undecorated except for black paint in and around the hole and base.

White Heart3113/2 a-d

Tall glass sculpture with three cedar mount parts. A tall glass cylinder (part a), rounded at top and bottom, is the central piece in the sculpture, representing a trade bead. Its under-layer is frosted white, covered by a red frosted cut-out layer in swooping patterns and dots. It sits on a low, round cedar base (part b), carved along the edge, with a mat of woven cedar bark at centre. A hole in the middle supports a wood pole (part d) that extends throught the glass cylinder and is capped at top by small wooden lid (part c), carved similarly to the base.

Vessel with globular body, rounded base and short spout with slightly everted rim. Painted and geometrical-incised decoration near rim of a human face with nose and ears in relief, rectangular eyes with horizontal lines inside as pupils, short vertical lines below nose as mouth and long-thin hands to front; incised dots in ears and nose. Red and yellow-white paint. Burnished surface; molded manufacture.

Jar with globular body and rim. Feline decoration on spout neck, with applied head, legs and tail around front and back of body of jar. Bands with geometrical spirals in middle body and on strap side handles. Cream slip and black paint decorations. Burnished surface; molded and hand built ceramic. Complete.

Bottle with ellipsoidal and flattened body, long tubular-wide spout and two strap-side handles. Geometric decoration in spout, inverted triangles below spout, three horizontal lines in handles and four vertical lines in body at both sides of handles. Light cream slip and black decoration. Worn but unbroken.

Very small polychrome cup with long tubular body and rounded base and rim. Body has three humming birds in profile with three curved bands in their tail and long-thin beaks. Band in rim is red-brown and outlined in black on one side. Birds are in a vertical position and are painted in grey, orange-brown and red-brown, outlined in black, cream ground. Polished surface; molded manufacture. Repaired; chip out of rim.

Black and white double spout bottle with bridge handle, triangular body and rounded base. Double globular forms at the base of red-brown spouts are possibly representing some kind of seed or fruit. Black triangles and lines on white ground and circular red-brown details on top of body and in the middle of globular forms. Polished surface. Broken, repaired.

Globular collar polished and molded jar. Painted designs of three corpses in water; purple red, black and orange-red, overlaid with black and orange-red water pattern lines. Purple red base band and rim with vertical bands in purple-red, cream and black paint. Breakage repaired.
