Pot2987/4

Globular pot with rounded base. The mouth is small with a tall round rim that is painted with a wide white stripe covered in cross hatching. Two curved lugs sit on the shoulder painted in lines and dots. Two long nosed, long tailed creatures, possibly anteaters, are painted on the shoulders between the handles. The body of the pot is painted a rust-red and partially burnished, while the base is unpainted.

Small globular pot with rounded base. The mouth is small with a thick rim holding two small lugs, each with a tiny hole bored through. Close together on the shoulder of the pot, two concentric diamond patterns are faintly imprinted into the paint. The bottom portion of the pot is unpainted.

Small straight-sided, round bowl. Base is narrow, walls flaring outward toward the rim. On the outer rim is painted a repeating design of an open sun with rays in white on a dark brown background. Beneath the decoration the bowl is painted a dark rust-red, partially burnished. The interior is painted light brown.

Small straight-sided, round bowl, without its base. The walls flare outward toward the rim. On the outside is painted a long, geometric, encircling pattern of triangles, circles and half circles in white and dark brown on a rust background. The pattern repeats once. The interior of the bowl has a thick rust line painted around the rim. The base and part of the side have broken away.

Rattle Bowl2959/23

Rattle bowl, cream slip and design inside, red slip and design outside. Round vessel has a narrow circular base from which thin walls flare widely toward a straight walled rim. The exterior is an orange-brown, painted in a small, open pattern of dark brown lines with dark brown crosses interspersed. At rim and base are encircling lines of light brown and dark brown, respectively. The interior of the bowl is painted light brown, overlaid with a large open line pattern in orange-brown and dark brown, including a cross at bottom centre, with a smaller cross at midpoint. At the rim is a single encircling dark brown line. The finish both inside and out is somewhat shiny. The base is thick, and holds noise makers that rattle when the bowl is moved.

At the rim are two encircling lines with small regularly placed triangles protruding. The finish both inside and out is somewhat shiny. The base is thick, and holds noise makers that rattle when the bowl is moved.

Short pants constructed of seal skin, with a leather waistband attached to the top, and red felt cuffs sewn to each leg bottom. The front of each thigh is covered by a panel of red-painted leather and white fur surrounding an inlay of small colourful leather strips.

Figure2979/2

Seated male figure with bitumen decoration. Figure sits cross-legged, with his hands above his knees, and is shown wearing a headdress, necklace, apron, and arm ornaments(?) just above the wrists. The figure has painted black pupils and holes through his ears with round plugs in the holes? There are black/dark brown painted decorations on his torso, shoulders, necklace, fingernails and toes. The upper legs were also painted black (partly worn off) as if to represent short pants or a skirt. The headdress has three horizontal slits carved in it, at the top and both sides. The back is undecorated. There is a round hole bored in the back of the head. The neck has been broken off and glued back on, as has the right elbow and pieces of the necklace.

Figure2979/14

Small clay standing figure, flat in profile with arms flaring slightly outward and hanging to knees, legs slightly bent. A stripe of brown paint decorated the leg at the knees and arms just below the shoulder. The feet protruding and are positioned at an angle. The face is long with a large protruding nose, prominent ears with large holes in the lobes and carved and painted mouth and eyes. A tall hat sits atop the head, painted brown. A ring sits at the neck, open to the front. A carved waist cloth covers the groin, and a lightly carved inverted V-shape sits on the stomach. The figure is covered with a light brown slip, with the orange clay showing through in several areas.
