Sake BottleEd5.2959 a-b

Bottle with a long, narrow, flared neck and a raised foot. Exterior is decorated with six scenes contained is outlines of different shapes. The two largest designs are of a floral scene and a scene with bird and bamboo; the two scenes in a fan-shaped outline are of an ocean and mountain scene and a pier and tree scene; the two scenes in the cloud-shaped outlines are of a pier, tree, and distant mountains and of a building with a tree near the ocean. Geometric decorations are at the neck and above and below band of scenes. Part b is a stopper and fits into neck and rests on the rim; a knob is in the centre; the top is glazed brown with gold; Underside is glazed grey; stopper is unglazed.

Loon Rattle2937/1

Rattle carved in the shape of a bird, with black paint used to show the wings, feathers, eyes and beak of a loon. The rattle was carved in two pieces, top and bottom, which are tied together in three places with string. The holes in the fourth spot are missing the string. The rattle is hollow and makes noise when moved.

Frontlet Headdress2922/3

Headdress and carved wooden frontlet with an extensive ermine trailer. The frontlet’s main figure is an eagle with a small bear head and paws below and a wolf(?) head and paws above. The eagle has shell eyes and many abalone decorative inlays around it. Sea lion whiskers project upward from the top of the headdress. The entire upper head area is covered with eaglet skin with the fine down still attached. A long ermine trailer sewn on red cotton hangs below the headpiece. There is an abalone eagle crest attached on the left side.

Carved and painted raven rattle with one side depicting a painted face and the opposite side carved with a raven, a man and frog, connected by its tongue and a box with a painted face on its back. Partially painted with plain wood ground. Object rattles when moved. Bottom surface of the handle has artist inscription “Neel”.

Drum863/5 a-c

Cylindrical-like shaped wood drum (part a) carved in the form of a sea lion with a wolf-like head, a long body, shallow carved and painted front flippers and a triangular shaped end consisting of two hind flippers formed together with a rectangular tail in between. The head has a long protruding snout with carved eyes, nostrils and bared teeth. The drum is painted black, red and green with Northwest Coast stylized designs. Parts b-c are the stand for the drum. Each is a rectangular unpainted wooden block with a shallow rectangular indentation for holding the body of the drum.
